lavendertook: close up of saki alert (Saki)
( Oct. 15th, 2015 09:10 pm)
To comfort me, my talented friend of singing words [livejournal.com profile] jan_u_wine linked me to this verse from Omar Khayyam:

And fear not lest Existence closing your
Account, and mine, should lose, or know the like no more;
The Eternal Saki from the Bowl has pour'd
Millions of Bubbles like us, and will pour.

I did not take her name name from this verse naming Khayyim's cupbearer from The Rubiyat, and was not familiar with this verse. My Saki's name comes from the Japanese name Murasaki, the first name of the writer of The Tale of Genji. The name means "lavender" which is close to lilac, because I thought Saki was a lilac-point mix siamese, until [personal profile] delux_vivens convinced me Saki was a torti-point siamese, like her dear Nutmeg, a variety I was not aware of. I dream my friends Saki and Delux are finding comfort in each other--I hope Nutmeg doesn't mind.

[livejournal.com profile] jan_u_wine followed this verse with a poem it inspired from her pen/keyboard in honor of my Saki and to soothe my heart:

A POURING

A Pouring by Januwine and more Saki . . . )
Back in July, on our first full day, Saturday in Laramie, our gracious host [personal profile] hanarobi took some of us in the afternoon to a place east of Laramie called Vedauwoo, pronounced Vay'-de-voo, or rhymes with "Made a zoo." It was a picture perfect day, so it was easy to make lots of post-able pics.

This pic is actually from the end of the visit through the car window, just to give you the long vista.

And here we are--big impressive rocks surrounded by beautiful aspen and fur trees, and other flora.

We took a path part of the way around the cliffs.

Mallorns Aspens--oh how I love them!

My friend [personal profile] delux_vivens has died. She made the world a better place.

I never met her, but we IMed quite a bit over the last few years. She should have had more time. She shouldn't be gone.

American lotus was her flower, but water lilies are close. Daisies, and black-eyed susans especially remind me of her beautiful beadwork.

Some pics for you, bb. One last time. )
lavendertook: milli on couch curled and looking up (milli)
( Feb. 23rd, 2014 09:27 pm)
It's been 6 years since I lost my beautiful calitabby Milli to lung cancer. (Yeah, YOU try telling a cat to stop smoking.) She was Saki's big sister. Saki made Milli's life hell the first few months after I brought Saki home, but their finally getting along and sharing good play fights was something I was very proud of helping them to achieve.

Milli was a sporadic cuddler. She liked keeping life at paws length, but loved watching what went on around her, and loved judging it as problematic, and blinked the most loving looks. The beauty of her ticked fur with rich rust and peach highlights in the sun could take my breathe away.

I miss my sweet girl, but I'm glad for the time we had together, and am glad she passed on peacefully at the end of her too short life.

Now we're on the path going around the lake and you can catch a glimpse of it through these trees. There's a wider opening where you can see more of the lake, but I like looking out between these ivy-covered trunks. Ivy and moss always add a more primal and mystical touch to the setting, as does the late afternoon sun. There's undoubtedly some hobbits hiding among the undergrowth, watching for Elves to pass by.
