She said YES!!!!!! I have a new dissertation adviser! (-:(-:(-: *dances* And after all I've been through with the others, she was so easy about it!!! And she seemed just like a normal person too! Hence, you can tell she's only been at this university a semester. :-P But I've just read her book and she's definitely who I should be working with--she's written on my grrl, Margaret Cavendish, and she uses the kind of theoretical approach that I want to bring to bear on my work--reading gender, sexuality, class, and subjectivity together in the historical context. And she said there needs to be more Cavendish dissertations out there, which was a lovely thing to hear not coming from my own mouth!(-;
So, I've been brainstorming hard the last couple of days pulling together my schpiel as I gear up to write a prospectus, and I walked in all ready, leaving my UMD-conditioned terror aside, and when I asked her if she'd be my adviser, she said. "Yes, sure. Who else works on Cavendish here?" AHAHAHAHHAHAHA!! Just like that!
Now it's all up to me to keep my momentum going. The only catch will be if the grad school refuses my petition for retroactive candidacy, but my chances are better that they won't now that I have an adviser lined up. So tomorrow, I'll get my student loan deferments in order, and give the rest of the week to house cleaning so that I can get all my work materials in order which are scattered about right now. Then I'm good to go. And now that I know that I'm going on to dissertate, it helps me prioritize my job hunt for low stress work that will allow me to concentrate when I get home rather than something more interesting but stressful for the time being. But it looks like I'm going to reach that ABD status, and get past it to the PhD now.
So ya'll are going to have to get used to hearing more about Margaret Cavendish in this LJ, I reckon. Maybe even more than you hear about hobbits, but let's not get carried away here.(-;
Oh, on my walk around the lake today, I found a couple of monarch butterfly caterpillars, which I took home with some milk weed and put in a terrarium. In a few days or weeks I should have some gorgeous chrysalises to look at and then some butterflies to set free.(-:(-:(-: So a good day for me. (-: Life is working again, finally.(-:
