So. New kitten! I brought him home today! Loooooooook!

This pic was taken by his foster and put up on petfinder.com and I as not strong enough to resist applying for him. He was named Spencer, but I am calling him Kimba--my earliest childhood anime hero, and also a name close to our Kimbra. I’ll give him his full name when I'm sure it fits him. He is about 3 1/2 months old--about 2 weeks older than Shuri was when I brought her home last year, but the pic is probably closer to when he was 2 months. And OMG, he is soooooo sweet! He loves to be held and purrs like a motorboat and goes straight for your face with his nose locking his eyes on yours. So, so, so loving!
I met him on zoom almost 3 weeks ago--yup the kittens are all up on pandemic tech, too. And I of course said I would take him. The very next evening, poor Tuxie started bleeding out his rear all over the placeand peeing all over. I got him to the vet and it was a urinary tract infection as I suspected. They are apparently very painful, poor baby. The doc gave him a shot of Covenia, and gave he heavy duty probiotics to give him. We decided to wait 2 weeks before bringing in the kitten, depending on how he was doing, not wanting to add stress until he was well. He progressed wonderfully, and had his followup last Monday, and the go ahead on the kitten. So we worked out the details this very insane week in this country. Tuesday I was busy voluntering with Election Defenders as a poll monitor/voter aide for my county down in Fort Washington. Then I was scattered and kind of off the rest of the week like most of us. But we worked it out, and I drove out to Round Hill, VA a little town near the Appalachians, met his wonderful foster and brought him home with a gorgeous sunset over the mountains in my rear view mirror. It’s not far from El Trumpo’s golf course, so I am glad I did not run into his motorcade either way.
It turns out he is from the same rescue I got Purrsimmon from and was brought to them from mountainous Garrett County, MD, just like Purrsimmon. So it’s possible they are related or in the same gene pool. My application probably went through fast because the rescue coordinator remembered me or I suspect i wouldn’t have gotten this little poster boy. There’s something up with gorgeous flame-point siameses going stray and left to fend for themselves out there. Purrsimmon was over a year old when I got her, so I never did get to see her as a kitten, so Kimba is filling in for my flame point kitten craving. He was brought into the county shelter along with his 2 sisters and one brother. I don’t know anything about their mother but they were all well socialized kittens when they were rescued and then transported down to VA.

Another amazing pic by their foster. The two sisters got adopted out shortly after my adoption was accepted for Kimba. The little Black kitten is his pretty brother Doug, and I was so tempted to take him, too. But I am worried enough about Kimba giving Tuxie a heart attack, and my ability to keep up with changing litter boxes, so really not a good idea. I let the girls come in to the bathroom while I was holding him to see him and I never saw Shuri hiss like that, and Purrsimmon hissed a little, but not very seriously. I feared Shuri would have a harder time adjusting to a new sibling. I'm going to have to take introducing them slowly. Tuxie knows he is here, but is making believe nothing is going on. I put Kimba up in my bedroom and he has settled in nicely there. I’m spending a couple of hours with my crew before going to bed because Purrsimmon was growling at Shuri--probably displacement--and Shuri is confused on top of being unsettled. Purrsimmon is napping now, so hopefully she’ll wake up loving her sister again, or I’ll have to play them into normal interaction. Here’s one more pic that the foster took of Kimba.

I am sorry I haven’t been keeping you up with the girls as Shuri turned from a kitten into a young adult. I have so many pics to show. I've been involved with a lot of Black Lives Matter rallies, vigils, marches, and protests in my town and county the last few months and getting to know some awesome local activists and politicians. Besides that, I’ve been fighting to get me topside (up daylight hours and fighting myself back form a nocturnal schedule--the eternal struggle for me) and trying to cope through all the awfulness of 2020. I’m sorry to say, I’ve been sucked into FB and posting my political thoughts there and not enough time here, but it’s been good to connect with my cousin and a lot fo old friends there, as well as locals I’ve been connecting with through activism. Still love you all and look in more here than I get time to comment.

Tuxie has given up and realized he's part of the herd.

They are just hissing and growling. But they are also coming close to Kimba to do it. And he’s a leggy little thing but still so much smaller. I just don’t know if they will try to hurt him. He’s not sure either, and I don’t like him being made afraid. Like me, he half way thinks Shuri is bluffing and wants to play and he is doing some play moves toward her, but none of us are sure, including her. So I’m just giving him short supervised visits if they come up to see us in the bedroom, or taking him downstairs. I'm just hemming him in downstairs because I’m afraid he’ll get behind the couch and they’ll follow him and beat him up and I won’t be able to reach him, so I can’t let him wander until sure they mean no harm. But I can’t stay up in the bedroom with him as much as I’d like during the day and I don’t like what this could all be for him. I think with Purrsimmon, who ran up to Tuxie without hesitation when she got here is that she had no skin in the territory game back then. But now she does--as skittish as she is, she runs to the door to see the mailman push mail through the slot and runs to check out noises, so she’s been developing some fierce guard cat instincts. Maybe they’ll accept him better when he is deballed. I just don’t want them to try doing it themselves.

OMG, how could you resist?? Thank you so much for the update, especially since I know you're massively busy on every front.

Wah, makes me want a kitten so badly! Maybe some time when I live in a place without a two-pet limit and have more space...
