Is anyone on my local flist going to the Cris Williamson concert at the Birchmere tomorrow? I'm still deciding whether or not to get a ticket. I really wants to go--I've never caught her live (and the album she is doing her anniversary tour of was my coming out album)--but, as always, I'm way behind in my diss writing and not sure if I should let myself out--I need to get some major work done this weekend without fail. Last weekend I had a really good chunk of time set aside for working and I blocked up--that will not happen this weekend--no.

Footses: My plantar fasciaitis is much better now, and I visited a new podiatrist today. He was a talk-at-you kind of guy who seems to view a patient as one big foot, but even he grimaced when I told him about my injection experience with the ex-podiatrist and said he never heard of an aborted shot before. He also said the cortisone injection takes 20 seconds, not the several minutes my ex-podiatrist was shooting for. I think I will indeed have to complain about her to my insurance company for the sake of her future potential victims. As a result of the visit, I have this huge foot brace thingie I have to strap on my foot at night for the next few weeks--we'll see how that goes. He also wants me to stop taking walks, but you know, there's more of me that needs to be taken care of than my foot--silly myopic specialists.

After the appointment, I needed some sleep catch-up and took what turned out to be an all afternoon nap curled around my Purring Saki of the Fluffy Belly--it's a good life. (-: I have the best kitty housemates.

Toothses: I got a blue titanium peg put in my mouth, where a molar used to be, that perfectly matches the Blue Pearl. At first they placed there this gorgeous purple titanium nail thingie that I was hoping would be staying, but it was only the place holder. But Pt Cruiser blue ain't bad. In four months I'll get a crown over it, though. And my current dentist is just a find, because the 3 novocaine shots didn't hurt at all, she was so good with the needle and the topical cream--will wrap this dentist in shiny paper and bows.

Workses: I'm working reduced hours at my job to try to make writing time during the week, but my energy has been so low lately, I'm not accomplishing much except for reading some typically dense Judith Butler this week, that really isn't leading me anywhere productive in relating to ideas on democracy and multiplicity in beefing up my thesis, so I should probably drop it and move on to more productive research. And damn, that fucking CDC report really bent me out of shape this week. Must cut back further on awareness of current politically upsetting events (because there aren't any other kind) until next year--it's OK to be a bad citizen for a year in order to get a dissertation finally churned out, right?

Hobbitses news: My current dorkish distraction has been slowly assembling items for a dollhouse-sized Back End I will be crafting, largely inspired by [livejournal.com profile] ophelia_medusa's gorgeous work, but originally generated to be part of a costume for a LOTR event I didn't have time to go to, but I now have until the event recurs next year to work on it. Did you know that most dollhouse furniture is made to perfect scale for hobbit action figures? Who knew? My action figures have convinced me to turn this Mobile Smial into a Double-wide Smial, so I'm making part of it (the foyer and half the parlor) detachable to fit around the waist as part of a costume (yes, I would be going as The Hill, silly). Making it a double-wide has involved the purchase of a couple more hat boxes and a decision to also make the kitchen--yay tiny food items! I'm modifying John Howe's floor plan to make the foyer, parlor, and kitchen a straight-shot from the entrance (or in folkloric house-building nomenclatures, this will be a shotgun smial--yes, I am a dork in multiple epistemologies). I may add side boxes for more rooms, as the fit takes me. But OMG, I love the small crafted things--and searching hardware stores and thrift shops to find things made for other purposes and turn them into the perfect fixtures. In other hobbit news, I will take time to write a short entry this weekend marking my Bingo's 4th LJ anniversary--my hobbit muses are on hiatus this year but will return when I have time next year. Must resist the siren call of the ton of spring yard sales with possible items fit for my tiny smial this weekend and write.

Oooooo!!!! What is Saturday Market? I got some woven reed coasters the other day, that will make nice little rugs, in addition to the Persian rug coasters I got at Borders (they make them to go with the Persian rug mouse pads they sell.)

Nine out of ten hobbits do approve of full bar sets--the other one is currently passed out. I have this little bar relief wall hanging I got at the thrift shop a couple years ago--it's got a nice tile roof for a Spanish bar look. Only Smeagol can fit his butt behind the bar so he's bar tending. The other hobbits all gather around it on top of my computer hutch here--there little Green Dragon scene--gandalf is on the roof protecting the hobbits from a crocodile.

And while waiting for Bag End to be finished, some of them insisted on having set up a little split level apartment on the edge of one of my bookshelves with some of the new furniture and accessories that will go in the smial. So yeah, you're going to have to put together a cottage or smial. Those little things are just too nicely crafted not to be out in view.

Saturday Market is an outdoor craft and produce market here in town. Lots of pretty jewelry, tie die, pottery, plants, and produce, and musicians playing. Just generally a fun way to spend the day.

I usually have a room of some sort set up on the shelf above my computer desk. This week Merry and Pippin are taking turns sitting in the beach chair under the umbrella.

It is just so much fun when you find something that is perfect for the hobbits.

That looks great--ty. I love open markets like that.

Aww, happy hobbits on the beach. (-:

It is so much fun, and today my hobbit dollies love me very, very much becaaaaaause I went to a doll store in Annapolis and got them a feast of the most gorgeous tiny food! This stuff is really beautiful and just perfect, and not at all expensive. So I got them a plate of waffles in syrup, a plate of eggs sunnyside-up with toast and crispy bacon, a platter of veggies with dip complete with the cutest little mushrooms (and these are all perfect!), a roast bird, a strawberry pie, a chocolate cake with little cherries, and two tiny margaritas. So their Bag End kitchen table is going to have quite a spread now. (-:

Those must be happy hobbits, indeed! Sounds like quite a spread you got them.

I really wish I could remember which town on the coast that doll house store is that I got the pool table at. They had some adorable foods available.

If you want to email me your address, I'll send you a couple little Merry and Pippin food accessories. I'm at cdbreak at mac dot com. I think I still owe you some ORC pics from a couple years back, too.

I'd love to see those pictures. :)

And that is such a kind offer. I'll send you my address.
