The government shut down has ended. The Democrats backed down and accepted the Republicans' promise to maybe discuss DACA sometime next month, if they feel like it, and if Trump can't think of anything else to twitter about.

In return, the Republicans demand that all Dreamers below the age of 2 be brought to the Congressional larder for a feast in Trump's honor to sate his and Congressional Republicans' hunger for baby flesh.

Additionally, Lucy van Pelt agrees to hold the football for the Democrats to kick . . . .

Ah, but wasn't the shut down tremendous for ratings? It was all anybody talked about on tv or on twitter for days and days! It even trumped discussion about shithole countries and hush money paid to porn stars, and even that whole [fake news] Russia thing! It was so great. For those couple or three days, the whole country was united in their hatred for everyone in government. Isn't that what politics is for? So.Much.Winning!

No point for the Dem's to even try with our GOP loving media. Unfortunately, the GOP talks louder about hating the media, among many other groups, so it gets labeled liberal and no one questions whose benefit it's slanted in.

Yes it is. But if you click through to the comments on my LJ, romeny makes some good points to remind me that the Dems have actually accomplished much with CHIP over the last few months, which did start out with all kinds of Republican bills attached in the autumn, so one has to hope in small slow increments--it's the best the Dem minority can do. We shall see what they can do in the next month and if they can get the fickle media to keep a focus on DACA.

They did get CHIP funded, though, and Schumer made a reasonable argument for his tactics on Rachel Maddow tonight.
