OK, local hobbit posse!

Who's up for going to see the theatric version of LotR trilogy on the big (biggish, really) screen at Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse the Sunday after next, April 25th?

Also, I don't think that highly of the food there, so would anyone be up for missing part of TTT to get an early dinner at one of the restaurants on the block around the theater?

If I lived closer and could travel better than I do ...

Oh, trust me, you haven't even begun to plumb the depths of fear yet. This place serves cheap domestic cider firewater!

I friended you so I don't have to keep unscreening your comments--just sos ya'd know. (-:

Hee! I can reciprocate if you'd like, but be warned that I hardly ever post and when I do, it's most often blather about Saiyuki or dogs. There's really no doll-geeking going on in my journal since there's only one other BJD fancier on my f-list; so as not to bore and/or terrify the more normal folks, my dolly babble is safely quarantined to Flickr, hobbyist web forums, and occasional remarks in other people's journals.

Too far for me but sounds like fun; you and your posse have a great time.

I'll be away, otherwise I'd definitely have been interested. Have a fun time! *hugs*

Maybe it could be a back up plan? And they'll probably have it again next year. *hugses*

I'll have to find out if choir will be singing that morning or not (somehow it usually ends up that we are on the days they have this... why does it always have to be on Sunday? :p). So we'll see...

All right, I'm game. :) Would you want to carpool? ;) Have you bought your ticket yet, or are you going to get it there? Also, do they check your bags for food and such, or would I be able to get away with bringing some snacks?

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

Yay!!! Sure, I can pick you up. I haven't bought it yet--in case no one else wanted to go, I didn't feel like doing it solo since I've been to it a couple of times before. I doubt it will sell out--it wasn't that crowded last year, so you don't have to ush to get the ticket, but I'd get it online before Saturday. You can sneak in snacks--to be safe, just put a shirt or something over the stuff in the bag. People bring costumes for the costume contest so they expect people to bring bags of stuff.

Awesome. :) Just let me know what time you think would be good.

I completely understand not wanting to do it solo! It's hard to get motivated to trek somewhere when you're all by your lonesome. :p

Thanks for the info -that's exactly what I wanted to know. :)

Between 10:30 and 11:00 a.m. good. It takes half an hour to 45 minutes to get there if there isn't a jam.

I like going lots of places on my own, but I wanted fellowship for this.

Perfect. :) I have to go to Sunday School (I was enlisted to bring the goodies before I decided to bail on church...), but I should be back home by 10:30a. So anytime after that is great. You still have my address and everything?

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

I got your phone # handy, but if you could message or email me your building/apt # that would save me from digging it up. Thank you! Yay tomorrow--going to order my ticket now!!!

I have messaged you. :) I ordered my ticket yesterday, but never actually got the 'official' email confirmation... good thing I printed the page that came up after I placed my order. ;)

The Drunkhouse is a pretty small, informal sort of place -- I don't make it out there terribly often, but whenever I've gone I've never noticed them doing any sort of bag checks. The only thing they're strict about is checking IDs, because except for the special kiddy matinees they serve alcohol. So long as you're not trying to just brazenly waltz in with food and drink in your hands, I'm pretty sure you'll be safe with some noms discreetly tucked under the other stuff in your bag. :)

I'm not thrilled with their food--I mean, they don't even have buttered popcorn! I think there's sushi on the block so I do plan to escape during TTT to get some.

Are any of your dolls cosplaying for the event and coming? I don't rememebr you saying if you had any LotR dolls.

I definitely wouldn't go there just to eat, but compared to the nasty overpriced crap most of the first-run theater chains serve, I do rather appreciate the convenience of table service that'll bring me an adequate-if-unexciting sammitch or salad or whatnot while I enjoy the film. But I would have sworn they had popcorn there -- or is it just that they don't have butter for it?

As for dolls, I was just thinking of bringing my two smallest, Rosaleen and Ammy-chan (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2503/3724392239_bc1dbccaf4.jpg), since they're the most conveniently portable of my crew. I don't have any LOTR dolls or Tolkien-ish cosplay outfits for my resins, alas, although if I manage to find enough time to dig through all my fabric boxes I could perhaps at least throw together a quickie Lothlorien cloak to throw over their regular clothes...of course, finding something in the right scale to work as a leaf brooch would be the tricky part. Perhaps just hand-bending some jewelry wire into shape would be the simplest thing... *ponders*

Although come to think of it, I could possibly put Nasir in his sword dance outfit (http://img.iplehouse.com/co_img006/iplehouse/etc/kamau_dt8.jpg) and pass it off as the uniform of a mysterious and little-known order of Haradrim ninjas. The big hitch there is that at a little over two feet tall and nearly seven pounds, he can be kind of painful to lug around.

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

How big are your Rosaleen and Ammy-chan? I'll see what I can dig up for them, too.

Bingo Bear has a Ringers shirt that would probably fit Nasir, though it would lose him ninja cool points.

Ammy-chan is 16cm tall -- she's a wee bit shorter, but otherwise her body measurements are very close to the old Vogue Ginny dolls, or Barbie's little sister Kelly. Rosaleen is 43cm -- about an inch shorter but otherwise close in size to the Tonner American Model dolls, apparently. How big are your girls? I've been doing some housekeeping and have set aside a bunch of clothes and wigs, mostly girly stuff, that I need to clear out...but if your crew are about the same size as Barbie, it'll all be far too big. :(

And Nasir has a 16cm neck and 39cm chest, so it's definitely possible he could fit into shirts made for smaller plushes. No need to worry too much about the cool points, at home he's usually just lounging about in plain modern casuals.

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

Mine are all 1/6 scale--Barbie sized, and that's what I'm sticking, too. (Besides my action figure sized dolls that have the good doll furniture that I collected for making a mini Bag End, before I got into the much better 1/6 scale dolls.) .And the hobbits are Skipper sized. So I can bring Elven cloaks and stuff for Ammy-Chan at least.

I've bought a ton of Barbies, GI Joes, Ken's, and like dolls at the thrift shop that I've been moving heads and bodies around (some have better joints than others) on so I have enough Elves for crowd scenes in Eldamar and Tol Eressea, Have been picking up smaller dolls for Shire scenes, but it's hard to find ones with good joints. I just bought a bunch of accessories and clothes for the hobbits and Elves on ebay at minibarbie. (-:

Ooh, yes, there really seems to be a fantastic variety of furniture and accessories available in 1/6 playscale -- there's a lot to be said for the convenience and utility of working to a standard size. I'm always a little envious when I'm hunting for some particular item and inevitably all of the best pieces are 1/6, or 1/12 dollhouse scale...

Sounds pretty much like most theaters I've gone to, then. :) (Sans the alcohol... that alcohol part could be interesting.) Awesome. Thanks!

OMG how brilliant to be able to see it the whole thing with friends. I wish I could come.

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

I wish you could, too. But I'll see you in October at least, right?
