It's unusually warm today for March--upper 70's. So when I took a walk around Greenbelt Lake on my lunch break, I expected I'd see these guys emerge: But I didn't expect to see this adorable garter snake already in the season: The snake was about a foot and a half long. Pretty colors. I saw several frogs all hanging out in the entry pond. And several turtles on this log and a few other logs in the lake. Canada geese hanging out with a pair of mallard ducks. And pretty wood ducks. Spring is on the way. And I am very grateful to walk where I can see all this. Two years ago today I had to take my lunch walk in the city, and on that day, it didn't go so well, and I got smacked onto the pavement. I am so glad to not be working downtown now, and that 2 weekdays I can walk around my lake because I'm working those days from home. Oooh, you saw a frog! And a garter snake too. I'm hoping my neighborly black king snakes will be back in our yard eating pests and sunning themselves. Also maybe leaving a shed skin or two again that I can maybe give to an interested kid.

It's time for the frogs, but I was surprised to see a snake already. If I see a skink this month I'll be extra surprised. (-: Not much in the way of critters at the lake today with all the cooler cloud cover.

I hope you're having a good weekend.

It's been unseasonably warm here the past few days, too.

I love wood ducks. We don't see them around here, so I appreciate your pic.

I'm glad you're in a better place in your life than you were a couple years ago. It's so good you are in a position to work from home a couple days a week. :))

Wood ducks are the prettiest. We have 2 pair right now.

I truly am in a better place--thank you, and I'm hoping I can start feeling it, like any day now! I'm still stuck with the extra anxiety from getting to this place--so I'm still looking for bears chasing me out of the corner of my eyes. I don't know how long it will take for me to relax and stop beating myself up. Here's hoping sooner than later.

The turtles really like to do the all in a row thing. I was really surprised to see a snake this early.

Awesome! That garter snake is the bomb! And I love wood ducks. They are so beautiful!

The peepers were singing their little hearts out yesterday on my hike. Spring is definitely getting close.

love the Canada geese and the ducks :-)

It's now 5.15 a.m. here and the birds are already chirping :-) It's a wonderful concert and it will be louder by the next weeks.

It's a beautiful habitat for the wild people. Frogs are cute, and the garter snake has such pretty colors. I love the big Canada geese, and the mallards are gorgeous.

It is a wonderful little ecosystem. I love to see the critters come back in the spring.

Oh! Thank you for posting these photos! It's so good for me to see these sorts of things when I'm little expecting to see them, and I'm all smiles right now!
