KVETCHING

A lot of annoying times for me these past 3 weeks, in addition to the upsetting world angst. Nothing life shattering for me--I'm just bent out of shape like it was--shape up self! Car repairs that took 2 days and resulted in having to replace the radiator and fan assembly. At the same time, I had a maintenance person in for 2 days working on the drip that had become a stream from my bathtub faucet and had to keep calling on him when the first days work resulted in not all the water going up to the shower head when switched, until he came up with a makeshift solution, which I hope holds.

Then the next week my bedroom ac stopped working. That took a week and a lot of calling, waiting for contractors who did not show up, hot nights, then the maintenance man making my sunroom into a mess when he brought in a portable ac. It was finally fixed Tuesday.

But I hadn't been sleeping well--being bent out of shape, so I took off Friday from work. Friday I took a walk around the lake, but when I nearly got back found I had dropped my new sun reflective umbrellas cover with the nice shoulder strap. I didn't want to go around twice because my plantar fasciitis is acting up, but around again I went, and triumphantly found it in the very last trash can around the lake, which was fortuitous because I didn't think to look in the trash cans until half way around, and if I had gone the other direction, I would have missed it. So yay on quest fulfilled, but boo on my foot hurting worse. Then that evening I knocked an entire new bottle of olive oil onto the kitchen floor, with glass shards all over, so I had a fun, exhausted evening cleaning up. And yes, one again Moo managed to run through the mess, despite my efforts to screen it off, but luckily she was unharmed. So much for my day off. I have caught up on some of my chores this weekend, so things are better now, though my foot is still achy.

VIGIL and FILMS
We had a town vigil for the Orlando shooting at the town center that I attended. Always good to light a candle. Then the town theater gave a free showing of the movie "Pride", which I had missed when it was in theaters, so I caught it-- a bittersweet feel-good film. It's about lesbian and gay Londoners coalitioning with Welsh miners to support the miner's strike in the mid 80's and really well done.

Last weekend, [personal profile] zlabya (ekaterin24 on LJ) and I went to see the Austen film "Love and Friendship"--cute, snarky fun.

BOOKS
I don't think I wrote about NK Jemison's "The Fifth Season." Thumbs up and I can't wait for the next in the series to come out. It involves 3 intertwined stories about "orogenes," people who can tap into tectonic plates and make or mitigate earthquakes, and how the rest of society treats them--a variant on themes dealt with by Octavia Butler and Xmen, but fresh in her world building and treatment thus far. And I finished the 2nd and 3rd books of Ann Leckie's Ancillary series--the characters really grew on me. The break down of the political situation felt a little pat, but a nice variant on the Borg/AI hive mind theme. I am soon to start Novik's last of the Temeraire series and looking forward to it.

HIKE
Two weeks ago, I went with a couple of members of my lesbian geezers group (OWLS) to hike some trails at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center on the bay south of Annapolis. It was lovely, but you can see for yourself below.

Best pic I could get at the distance. This is a male summer tanager--first I've seen. His golden brown mate was around as well.

I love the knots on this big old tulip tree.

On the estuary leading into the bay.

It's annoying when lots of random petty accidents add up. I'm glad the vigil worked out well. The films and hike sound very cheering too.

I hope you have fewer, and smaller, reasons to kvetch the rest of the summer. Love the pictures, especially the gorgeous scarlet tanager!

Oh sweetheart, what a lot of frustration. And I know how debilitating foot pain can be!

We must be sharing radiator karma this month. *sigh*

What an annoying month in my microcosm--more dire on macro level. I am very grateful, though, that the car made it through the moot and that all this schtuff happened after it and not before. <3 ((((You))))

It always seems to happen all at once, have you noticed? Hopefully that's the end of it for now.

A summer tanager! Wow, lucky you!

Coping with any problem is so much harder in the summer heat. I hope things calm down now for you. *hugs*

Thank you!

True enough. But I'd rather have my problems in the summer and winter, so I can enjoy spring and autumn. (-; Thank you! *snugs* They're not completely ready to calm down yet, apparently. Continued in next angst filled post . . .
