The storm is winding down here and we didn't lose power around here--I am grateful. It started here around 1 pm yesterday and should be ending in an hour or two. After I dug out my car this afternoon, I slogged around fording a path around my building and measured the snow in a few spots--it ranged form 13 to 18 inches. We should have a few more inches since then. We got off a little lighter int he NE corner of the Beltway than folks to the west of us. Here's out my living room window:

All pics are from this morning. A lot of birds were visiting A's feeders downstairs. Here's a white throated sparrow waiting his turn to fly down:

Here's the parking lot out my sunroom windows:

Middle car is mine--Gwaihir Jr., because it's a white PT Cruiser and thus looks like a giant eagle's egg. My back is a little sore from digging out today, but I won't have to do as much tomorrow. Hopefully, we'll be able to telework on Monday and not have to slog in through it. I am not looking forward to the ongoing icy conditions we will have the coming weeks as this stuff slowly melts.

Well done for beginning the digging-out! And it's good to know the wild ones are getting some help with their food (food banks for the birds! ;-) ).

P.S. Panda

Also, did you see yesterday's vid from the National Zoo's twitter of their adult male panda enjoying the snow?

glad you have power!

i am lucky in that two of my neighbors have snow blowers and enjoy using them in weather like this to justify keeping them. <3 they still leave a bit on the sidewalk, so more able-bodied family members help out by scraping off the sidewalk.

it will be a bit before my street is plowed.

I thought this humorous parking related tweet might brighten your day slightly (visual humor involved, not screen reader friendly).

I love your photo of the sparrow! It looks a bit like the ground sparrows we saw last time we were walking around the lake together. Our birds are hiding around here, though I did hear some this morning.

I'm relieved to see that you got off "easy", when the news blaring reports of "RECORD-SETTING SNOWFALL! 30" IN DC AND MARYLAND!!" I'm also glad you did not lose power.

I see that you are supposed to get a warm-up this week to help melt things. I wish you minimal ice and slush, and safe driving when you have to go out!

Yeah--it will be with us a long time, turning gray with us. (-: Thank you--if i hadn't prepared it would have gone down for sure. (-:

Looks familiar! I have a similar view out my windows. :-) I'm hoping that I won't have to go to work tomorrow, but they seemed determined to open the library no matter what. *sigh* I hope you can telecommute! The temps are supposed to be in the low 40s this coming week but 20s at night. So yeah, lots of ice to look forward to...

And we're getting snow again, but at least not so much, and hopefully it will rain away by tomorrow.

wow, that's some scary loveliness, right there!

Your landscape looks like mine. I'm glad you are inside and warm. It has started melting a bit here and when a large ice sickle fell off the house earlier, all the cats ran. They thought we were in serious trouble. The noise was fierce.

oh my gosh, my cats freak out whenever ice and snow falls off the building while melting, too!

Awwww, poor kitties!!! When we get snow, you usually get more. I hope you are not too buried with the current batch.

oh my gosh, look at all that snow!!! I hope it all melts really fast. I know around here it's supposed to get up into the upper 40s during this week so hopefully you'll get some snow-melty weather, too!

Cool photos, especially the bird! Odd that Damnark hasn't had but a few flakes this year, more like a case of dandruff than anything else.

I'm so glad you didn't lose your power and are safe and warm this morning.

I'm getting ready to go slog around now and shovel. At least I won't have to worry about getting out to work this week. You take it easy.

i hope none of us sees anything like this for years. i'm happy you're ok and didn't loose power. if businesses were compassionate, they'll understand when few people show up for work on monday... or tuesday. ;-)

Thanks, bb. Hope you got throughout he clod snap OK and are feeling better.

Wow, you guys got a lot of snow too. It was quite a storm, wasn't it?

From: [identity profile] aliensouldream.livejournal.com

That's a huge pile of snow! How on earth did you dig out the driveway? I'm relieved you got through the blizzard okay and with power but oh what a lot of snow. Like Caradhras.

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

I dug out around that center car, and my knee is still paying for it. Bleh. I will have to find someone to hire next time we get big snow.

From: [identity profile] julchen11.livejournal.com

That's what I'd call lots of snow, very familiar to me. Thanks God snow has gone now...
I hope that was it with winter *fingers crossed for all of us*

We're getting snowed on now, but ti is supposed to turn to rain tonight and get warmer over night--a very strange day.

I'm glad your snow is gone. I'm in Maryland, between DC and Baltimore. Where are you?

From: [identity profile] julchen11.livejournal.com

The weather on this planet is very strange at the moment.
I'm living in Germany - Northern Bavaria to be exactly. The weatherman said this morning we'll have sun today or snow or rain. I love those acurrate statements.

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

It is--so extreme.

Wow--Bavaria. I bet it's beautiful there. Btw, do you mind if I friend you, since we have so many friends in common?

From: [identity profile] julchen11.livejournal.com

You would like to friend me? That's WONDERFUL!!!
I friended you already ;-)
Bavaria - yes, it's very beautiful here and I like my homeland very much.

Thank you soooo much, my dear FRIEND!
