The storm is winding down here and we didn't lose power around here--I am grateful. It started here around 1 pm yesterday and should be ending in an hour or two. After I dug out my car this afternoon, I slogged around fording a path around my building and measured the snow in a few spots--it ranged form 13 to 18 inches. We should have a few more inches since then. We got off a little lighter int he NE corner of the Beltway than folks to the west of us. Here's out my living room window:





All pics are from this morning. A lot of birds were visiting A's feeders downstairs. Here's a white throated sparrow waiting his turn to fly down:

Middle car is mine--Gwaihir Jr., because it's a white PT Cruiser and thus looks like a giant eagle's egg. My back is a little sore from digging out today, but I won't have to do as much tomorrow. Hopefully, we'll be able to telework on Monday and not have to slog in through it. I am not looking forward to the ongoing icy conditions we will have the coming weeks as this stuff slowly melts.

I have feeders, but I haven't filled them in months because, in fixing part of the screen that was coming out, I managed to superglue the screen frame shut, so I can't get at the hanging feeders. I bought some super solvent online, but haven't had time to try it yet. Making the screen secure so Tuxie wouldn't fall out was the higher priority in my war against entropy. One day . . . But until then, A has her feeders up downstairs and I can pour seeds on the ground for the ground feeder birds and friends.

i am lucky in that two of my neighbors have snow blowers and enjoy using them in weather like this to justify keeping them. <3 they still leave a bit on the sidewalk, so more able-bodied family members help out by scraping off the sidewalk.

it will be a bit before my street is plowed.

I don't want to leave my parking spot ever after all the work to dig it out!! It will be taken the minute I move it and I will have to park far away and traipse over ice. *le sigh*

I love your photo of the sparrow! It looks a bit like the ground sparrows we saw last time we were walking around the lake together. Our birds are hiding around here, though I did hear some this morning.

I saw so many over the weekend--love the gold and house finches and all the variety of woodpeckers. (-: I hope you are having a relaxing day. I am teleworking today, which sure beats commuting--hope we have to stay off the roads tomorrow, too.

I'm relieved to see that you got off "easy", when the news blaring reports of "RECORD-SETTING SNOWFALL! 30" IN DC AND MARYLAND!!" I'm also glad you did not lose power.

I see that you are supposed to get a warm-up this week to help melt things. I wish you minimal ice and slush, and safe driving when you have to go out!

Thank you, bb! Yeah, we got 20 inches, so we did much better than the hilly areas northwest of us--they always get hit harder. And I have to commend Pepco on the improvements they'v emade in securing the lines the last few years, though the winds did not look as wild as they did in our other big storms of the last decade.

We'll get a little, but there's a lot of the white stuff around. We should get more of a warm up next week that will hopefully make a good dent in it.

I have a similar view out my windows. :-) I'm hoping that I won't have to go to work tomorrow, but they seemed determined to open the library no matter what. *sigh* I hope you can telecommute! The temps are supposed to be in the low 40s this coming week but 20s at night. So yeah, lots of ice to look forward to...

Your landscape looks like mine. I'm glad you are inside and warm. It has started melting a bit here and when a large ice sickle fell off the house earlier, all the cats ran. They thought we were in serious trouble. The noise was fierce.

The weather on this planet is very strange at the moment.
I'm living in Germany - Northern Bavaria to be exactly. The weatherman said this morning we'll have sun today or snow or rain. I love those acurrate statements.
