Greenbelt Lake, 10-12
The lacy swamp maples, that have become favorites of mine since I've been experiencing autumn by this lake, dipping themselves gracefully over the water.

I picked some daffodils today whose stems were bent from the cold and weren't going to lift those blooms face down on the earth again on their own. The Bradford pears are still withholding their blooms against the cold--over a week late now--they're usually open by my birthday. The Japanese magnolia's have managed to open one exploratory bloom among the several trees lining the walk by the baseball fields behind the community center. The remains of the coating of snow we got yesterday all melted today, but we still had very little sun, though it left behind pink and purple clouds against the orange horizon.
