We're on the hill at the northwest corner of the lake. In the foreground is a sugar maple, and in the background is what I believe is a red maple, also known as a swamp maple. The swamp maples make some lovely cascades over the lake further along, as in this pic I took at the lake 2 years ago. These maples skip over the brightest fluorescent orange of sugar maples and go from bright yellow to a blood red you don't see on the sugars. I wish there was blue sky here, rather than clouds behind the leaves for a better contrast.
Looking from the heights to the footses, there be fallen leaves on the lawn under the maples.
And now we're looking from the sugar maple toward the red maple and picnic table downhill toward the lake. I love this view on a clearer day when the time of day is just right to reflect the blue sky and clouds perfectly in the lake.
Now the night time sudafed is setting in and my eyes are crossing, so off to bed I go.

Fallen leaves manage to be sad and beautiful at the same time.

Yeah, that's the thing with autumn. I'm a bigger fan of a good spring when everything pretty is joyfully bursting into bloom.

The "joys of spring"? I quite like the gentle sadness of autumn but perhaps that's because my sort of sadness isn't overwhelming, or nostalgic for summer, and prepares me gently for winter.

I just want the sunshine and flowers. (-: But the leaves turning to flame are grand--I did miss them when I lived down in North Carolina where fall is less dramatic, but I think I'd still trade them in for the longer Carolina spring with the slightly longer daylight.

Wow, I just can't believe you still have colorful leaves! Everything here is dead and ready for winter. :(

Oh no, these pics are still from October 25th, one of the only good weekend days we had during the turning. A few intrepid tree leaves are still clinging, but most all of them are gone here as well. *hugs*
