Just got an email that the RotK symphony at Wolftrap, VA will be Fri & Sat September 10-11, 2010 next fall.

The info is here.

Tickets go on sale a month from now.

Shall we plan a moot around it? What say you, hobbit posse?

Cross-checked at your LJ--it looks like you've already got the beginnings of a great moot planned. I'm sure it's going to be lots of fun! :D

Goodness. I'll certainly think about it, although a year out is a long time to plan!

It'll give you plenty of time to decide then! (-: I'll post next month when the tickets start going on sale.

There's a guest apartment on the floor below mine in my building that can house 4 comfortably (a couple more with air mattresses if need be) that I can reserve and will be very inexpensive to split, and there's a Marriott an easy 3 minutes drive away that is reasonable for 4 people splitting a room, so I'm thinking about trying to organize a moot around this. If the weather's nice the lake I live by is a great place for a picnic, too.

And I've got a floor (with queen-sized air mattress) to offer to one or two folks, if anyone wouldn't mind roughing it a bit. ;)

OMG, YAY!!! And I can guarantee I'll definitely still be in the area next September, since my contract runs through the end of September and I'll be renewing the lease on my apartment...

*squees quietly*

Yay!!! And if more than 8 people decide to come from out of town, we can always get a room at the Marriott for them since it's right in between us--walking distance to you really. (-:

Right now, those dates look fine for me. I'd really love to go. :))

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

Yay! Then you gots a place to stay if you want.(-: If enough people are interested in coming from out of town, I'll reserve for renting the guest apartment on the floor below mine for that weekend and get the moot together.

It's odd that it's so late--FotR was on Memorial Day weekend 2 summers ago.

Let's not even think about that--2010 will be a good year. *hugses*

I'd love it, but I know I couldn't do all the walking and climbing I'd have to do. My old body just can't handle it anymore.

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

Was the walk from the restaurant to your orchestra seat difficult? If not we should be able to limit your path to little more than that. I could call the park and find out how we could get some disabled access to drive up to the restaurant to let you out before parking--there is access. If I knew how hard those steps were for you at the end, we could have at least left the theater the way we came in to avoid those uphill steps--we didn't have to go that way at all, so you shouldn't have had to tackle that, nor that hill at the beginning--there is access at stage level. *hugs* There is wheelchair access, so there's definitely a way for people who don't walk to get there, as there should be. If you want to go, it wouldn't be a problem at all to arrange for this, as we have 11 months to work out all the details, so let me know and I'll do the inquiries--it'll be easy. Getting rid of that initial hill to climb and the steps we went up at the end is completely doable, so if you'd love to come, you should. I'd love you to come, too!

This is so sweet of you, to think of going to all that trouble for me. Let's wait a while, and see what happens. Maybe I'll get better, or the doctor will decide I need a bypass. I just couldn't bring myself to ask you all to do all that for me, no matter how willing you are to do it.

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

No, really, it's very easy! And you should speak up about what you need! If I were smarter about eldering, I would have figured it out--I'm going to be there, too, so it's never too soon to learn about how to deal with access.

The Wolftrap site has a page on accommodating disability, and I have the number to call, so it will take hardly any time at all. I never ate at the restaurant before so I didn't know the lay out of how it's situated next to the orchestra shell, but now that I do, I can see, even before calling them that getting you on level ground won't be a problem--it's just a matter of finding out in advance what route to take and what pass we may need. The only problem last time was that I didn't know you needed to avoid stairs and hills--now I do, so it can easily be taken care of. I want your company if you want to go.

Count me in. A couple of questions. the only money due next month is for the seats, correct? When is the money to hold the rooms due?
ancalime8301: (Fro happy -party)

From: [personal profile] ancalime8301

I can't speak to the rooms, but the money for the seats would depend on when the tickets are actually purchased. My feeling is that a lot of people would still be tentative at this point... I don't want to assume, but we got good seats this year even with purchasing much closer to the event, so I would think we don't have to worry about buying the tickets the instant they go on sale (we just have to buy them in one batch so we can sit together). But I suppose that would be up to [livejournal.com profile] lavendertook's judgment -I think she has a better feel for that part than I do. :)

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

I'll keep checking in on ticketing and keep an eye on how they're selling when they go on sale in November. I don't think I'd want to sit in the first couple of rows, but it would be nice to sit in the first 10 or so--if they're selling fast I'll post and ask people to make plans if they want to sit together.

You're first after Ellen, so you're welcome to stay with me if you can deal with cat fur and an air mattress, or Cali whose place is more spacious and less cat fur covered, or if the guest apartment is split between 3 or 4 people, it will be less than $20-$25 a person each night, and you wouldn't need to worry about that cost before August.

From: [identity profile] romeny.livejournal.com

Forgot I needed to get back to you on this. Yes, sweetie that would be fine, whatever you arrange. A couple of cats won't freak me out. lol

Eeeeeee, I'd love to go! I could stay at my parent's house (closer to Wolf Trap) or daughter's (further) if your guest apt is overbooked. Might even have room for an extra mooter or two at my parent's for one night!

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

Whichever works best for you! I know you can't stay at my place with fur from 3 kitties, but the guest apt would allow you to be in pajama walking distance down one flight of stairs. (-;

As long as it's on Saturday and not the Friday in case I can't take a long weekend that soon into the school year! But yeah, I'd definitely be open to it and would love to moot again! :)

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

Yeah, I was thinking of that. Let's plan on us going to the Saturday performance so you can definitely come. Saki is going to be so excited. (-:

From: [identity profile] mechtild.livejournal.com

Well, you never know. I've been tempted to come, but the first year decided it wouldn't be good enough acoustically (I'd only been to the ancient, pre-fire Filene Center), with too many yahoos out on the lawn, or because I had conflicts, which was the case this year.

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

The yahoos still do hang out on the lawn, as was my experience with a concert I sat on the lawn for a year ago--people talking all through it and ringing cellphones--ugh. So I learned Wolftrap isn't worth doing unless you get a seat in the shell--I dealt with no yahoos there.

From: [identity profile] mechtild.livejournal.com

Yes, that sounds like the way to go. I sat out on the lawn for a concert and I may as well have stayed home and listened to a record (it was long enough ago that records would have been the medium). I also saw an opera there, inside (also ages ago), which was better in terms of noise and distractions, but I was not close enough to see the performers's faces well, so that I lost a lot of the dramatic oomph and finesse of their performances. So I think one has to sit inside, but not too far away.

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

Yes, exactly. Which is why I'll be keeping an eye out on how the tickets are selling when they go on sale in a couple of weeks and see how quickly we need to get the group together.

From: [identity profile] lovethosehobbit.livejournal.com

I wanna go!!!! Could you get me a ticket? I think a moot would be an excellent idea. Oooooo...now I am so excited to have something to look forward to!! SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

Yay that you're coming, Tree! The tickets I got for people who said they were coming already are for Friday night, Sept 10th, front center orchestra seats, E 20-24 and F 21-22. I can't get you seats right next to us now. What I suggest you do is to call the ticket office, rather than order online, so that you can ask for a seat nearer us--they still have one available in row C. (If you order online, you have to take just what they assign you.) The number is 1-877-965-3872.

We have enough people coming that I'm going to reserve the guest apt--it'll be like $20 or $30 a night split 4 ways or less if we get more people and air mattresses.

From: [identity profile] lovethosehobbit.livejournal.com

Ok, I purchased a ticket for the front center orchestra seat F16. I hope that's close to you guys, but I guess we'll just have to see. Can't wait for this!!!

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

EEEEEEEEEE!!!! About 5 seats away--that's awesome! Hopefully, the people in between will be willing to shift one seat so you can sit with us--that's a good possibility now. (-:
