OK, the latest LJ shenanigans finally motivated me to create an InsaneJournal. I had been meaning to create one since GJ went belly up. So I'm also lavendertook on IJ. Friend me! Friend me!!!!

Who of you have IJ's for me to friend?

Squeaky has (so far) been very careful about keeping up with site growth on the IJs. He's already bought more servers and he pays constant attention to site performance. When the GJs collapsed, the GJ mod instructed *everyone* there to go get an IJ, and as a result, thousands of people joined up in a matter of days. So far, so good.

About the only downside I can see from all of this is that Squeaky recently froze the sale of permanent IJ accounts because he realized (wisely) that he's going to need more revenue in the future in order to maintain the high performance standards over there. He'll be selling permanent accounts over there again at some point. In the meantime, free and paid accounts are available.

He's planning for the long-term, which I like. He's also incredibly good about communicating with the users. I actually trust him to say what he means, and to be reasonably transparent about what's going on over there. I have zero trust for anything that the LJ admins say, and I never had much faith in the GJ mods.

I don't know much about how fandom has set itself up over there. I feel pretty much out of fandom so I haven't paid much attention to it over there. I'm sure that'll change. I'm less and less interested in logging on to the LJs every day.

And you get 100 icons for an unpaid account, so that beats LJ's plus account hands down and even the paid accounts unless you pay for extra icons. I can deal with the ads when there's no bait and switch.

I haven't heard anyone complain about Squeaky thus far, and it's been many months since people on my flist set up accounts over there during Strikethru.

The shit today from LJ staff kind of tops it all--assholes. I really hate generating revenue for people with an attitude like that when I can go elsewhere. If I could get my flist up and moved to IJ, I'd be pretty much out of here. I'll get at least my journal entries migrated as soon as I find my bookmarks on migrating tools. I think there's a tool for the Mac that allows you to double post between journals.

I use Semagic to double post between my IJ and my LJ. I don't know if there is a version for Macs.

Thanks. I have a bookmark to that--will have to see if it will work.
