I've been taking photos documenting this slow and lovely fall around my lake, so this will be the first in a series of posts. We could have used more sunshine this past month as I would have liked to show you bright blue accents, but it's given us enough rain to really bring out the colors and keep them longer than I thought possible after this year of drought. So come with me and you can see sunset on the lake through a veil of swamp maple lace here:
Click on any of the pics to enlarge them. And yes, the reds of a couple of those trees beyond the yellow and blood and brick red maple veil really were cherry red bordering on magenta--a really amazing shade this year that really added a lot to the spectrum there.
If you go through the woods behind my apartment building and through the parking lots behind the fire station and the church and over to the ballpark, you'll come to a forest path that will take you over a little creek where most of the foliage is turning gold:
A little further down that path and to the right last week, I saw a great big hawk with a rust colored chest sitting a top a tree cut down to about 10 feet off the ground.
When you reach the path around the lake, if you take it to the right and go a few feet further, a path will go off to your left leading you onto a little peninsula that juts out into the lake. You just go through these trees:
