This is not my country.
This is not my country.
This is not my country.

Edit: They arrested her for refusing to cover up her t-shirt bearing this statement: “2,245 Dead — How Many More??”

2,245 Dead — How Many More??
2,245 Dead — How Many More??
2,245 Dead — How Many More??

Edit again: And that's only US dead. According to The Iraq Body Count Project, between 28,000 and 32,000 Iraqis have been killed.

I'm feeling like maybe everyone in DC should start wearing those t-shirts.

In fact, I think I'm going to write it on my bag right now so I'm wearing it no matter what I'm wearing (I always carry The Bag). Maybe I could make a patch for the number so I can change it as it inevitably increases.

Yeah, that's a great idea.

The only thing that bothers me with it is a qualm I have about the t-shirt in the first place. I would rather wear a shirt that also included how many Iraqis have been killed--I don't like the way the shirt implies that the US dead are all that matter, and I just furthered that in my post here. /-: *goes to look up current Iraqi death estimates*

However, since this phrase is also now about the loss of our freedom of speech, it does take on another layer. So still thinking on it.

Thanks. I didn't want to quell your idea--I think you should go ahead. I just haven't figured out how to support Cindy Sheehan, and add the omission and still make clear it's supporting her and all our first amendment rights, despite her omission. Playing Spartacus here is complicated! /-:

Wow... This was a very powerful post on your part, as well.

In the news today in Britain, we've learned that the 100th UK soldier was killed (though that seems v. low) and that Blair is still refusing to talk peace. It's been in the headlines out here.

Ty. I hope Sheehan goes through with the lawsuit. I'm sure they only went after the Repug because they realized they were in first amendment trouble and they were hoping seeming nonpartisan might help with their image. And the Repug didn't spend her evening over at the jail being booked.

How is your deciphering work going? I hope the stress levels have decreased. *hugs*
