OK, I'm gonna update, dammit!
This was a relaxing T-day weekend for me. I drove up to NJ on Thursday--OK, that wasn't relaxing since that was a 5 hour drive when it should have have been 3, but I got to listen to 5 cd's along the way so it was all good. It was a Positive and fun visit overall this time. M-F and Louise joined us and we had a good though somewhat quiet meal. And my friend Tim--who wasn't there this time, but when I went up 2 weeks ago to see how my mom was doing with her radiation treatments and show off my car I went to pick him up at his apartment in Wilmington to bring him along as we discussed on the phone, but he failed to inform any of us that he had MOVED DOWN THE STREET, so after me doing the ticked-off run around and my folks being panicked because he called them before I got there wondering where I was and scared them something happened to me, when he did drive up we ribbed him thoroughly--anyway *ahem* this trip Tim was elsewhere but still served as the butt of a few jokes among us, even if he wasn't there to crack jokes himself.
My mom and I stayed up after dinner and watched Saving Nemo, which I hadn't seen before. Cute little pic--the animation was gorgeous, especially the jellyfish; Ellen D. made the show as the sidekick, and the Psycho music when the kid showed up was perfect.
Mom only started to give me a hard time about my weight once, but a stern, "Knock it off" from me worked wonders--it's only taken me 43 fucking years to learn how to do that. Or maybe it was easier because she's wounded, what with the radiation treatments for the parotid cancer. Yay for wounded Mom! She's doing very well--her energy is still up and the treatments end this week, so the cumulative effect will get rough for the next month but then it will start to get better.
Friday my brother and I went out for lunch to get our beloved panzarottis (fried calzones) and then we all had a good political bitch session--we tend to agree on politics so it's not a stressful topic for us. They didn't know the crap Target is pulling on women trying to get emergency contraception so they were interested in the info I had on that, so it was nice to pull them into the boycott with me. Ah, the family that boycotts together . . . (-;
I meandered home, stopping at my fav exits on the way down (do I not sound like someone who was born in Jersey or what?)--find of the trip: a Coronation Arwen action figure--she's keeping one of my Eowyn's company now. Eowyn can't help putting her hand round Arwen's butt because Arwen's so much taller, she says. Yup. It's quite an action dollie party on the hutch over my computer. I'll post pics some day when I figure out how my photo site works.
I had a nice lazy weekend--no research done though and the apartment remains in its very messy stasis. The kitties really enjoyed their left over turkey dinner--I was glad to see Milli so thrilled with it. I sat around and finally read the first Narnia volume. I hadn't read it before and it's a good thing I didn't read it as a kid because I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have liked it then--I'll go into that more in another entry. And I went to see Pride & Prejudice this afternoon as it was playing round the corner--it was a very fun version--KeiraK did a fine job. But now due to my weekend viewing, I've got cross-over slash in my head:
Lizzy Bennet: Do you enjoy dancing then?
Darcy: Oooooo! Pick me! Pick me! Pick me!
I'm inspired! Off to write the first P&P/ Saving Nemo crossover slash! Wooooo!

And w00! Go you for telling your mom to back off about your weight. I agree it may be the cancer, but I think it may be just your mom in general in not wanting to say anything back because she realizes you are old enough to know. I wish my mom would do that instead of constantly trying to pull guilt trips on me and criticize me about how I life and who I live with.
*hugs*

Well, I was old enough to know, say, 10 OR 20 YEARS AGO, but some people are slow learners. (-; No, the change is me and how I'm handling it, not her, unfortunately. I think the trick is to get yourself to a point where you're calm enough to keep your cool when being needled in that old sore spot, and you feel sure enough about yourself not to be flustered, and to be really indignantly forceful, as you have to be with all bullying behavior--because I'm afraid that's what it is with mine. Next time I go through a low, she'll be able to get to me again--so I oughta start plotting now what to do about that.(-;
Want me to go tell your mom now to knock it off with you? I'm getting good at this! (-;

Also, I'm happy to hear your mom is staying strong throughout her illness and that you are also strong in standing up for yourself. Yay!!

Ty. Well, she went through the radiation before a few years ago for breast cancer, so this was a less invasive round--and again, luckily, caught early. I hope your father is doing better!
I missed congratulating you on your thesis! Belated Congratulations!!! And best of luck with the conference organizing!

Saving Nemo? Is that a cross over of Saving Private Ryan and Finding Nemo? ;-) I love that movie. Tis cute.
I'm glad your mom is doing well, and that you told her to knock it off about your weight. -hugs- It might be that she's wounded... or it might be that she finally got the message and realized that her daughter is all grown up and able to take care of herself. Maybe she realized that your a Responsible Adult... whatever *that* is. ;-)

Goddamn purist! Yeah, I fucked that up, didn't I? But it was FUN misremembering Dory's name as Darcy!
Nah, she treats Responsible Adults (TM) that way too. (-;
