They're not letting the RedCross in!!!! They think people would want to stay in urine soaked astroturf or the disease ridden floodwater outside if they had a little food, water, and a blankie to tide them over? How would you feel? So that isn't a relevant question to them because they're poor black folks, right? And they don't want the RedCross folk to come in contact with the scary poor black folks. So thousands of people are still being kept in the urine soaked astroturf with corpses!

And this after the head of FEMA saying they didn't want to move in until they heard from NOLA officials so they wouldn't be in the way--yes, a catastrophic disaster is a time for such territorial niceties. And Bush's spectacular delays--he used lies to wage war and leave Iraq in ruins and he's absolutely incompetent at home--what else does he have to do to get impeached? Oh, but he's not incompetent--it's just poor black people--what's the rush?

Why weren't the hospitals evacuated immediately?

So many people have died after the hurricane struck that should be alive today. And not a single terrorist can be blamed for this. Not a one.

You know, in a situation like that, I'd like to think that I'd break the rules to help people and get fired for it rather than sit around waiting for permission to go in. (I understand why permission is need - two firemen from CT lost thier jobs because they drove to NY after 9/11 w/out permission from their captian - but the situation in the south is a different type of dire.) As it is, I've posted links to charitable organisations and sent in donations I can just barely afford and I hope that does some good. (I gave your foster pet link to <lj user="lightningbaron" - I hope he puts it in his next links post.)

I do know.

You might want to give him this link as well for animals needing shelter:

And look what a LA senator has to say in the link I gave cyloran below.

Oh, I dunno, maybe that hurricane was SENT BY OSAMA BIN LADEN!

No, seriously. I am saddened to see this, since so much of the money coming in from other countries is being given directly to the Red Cross in hopes that they are sufficiently organized to deal with the crisis in a timely, and efficient manner.

But, it fits in with the other stuff one reads, about the various countries offering assistance, only the US juuuuuust can't quite get back to them to tell them when and where to send their personnel and equipment.

Well obviously there aren't any very organized terrorists out to get us right now or this would have been a perfect week to make a move, or maybe they're all in the middle of their 5 week vacations right now.

It's just a very poorly written farce.

Personally, at this point I'm thinking Bush is the terrorist.

I think Sen. Mary Landrieu might be in agreement. Look at what she has to say a couple items down in the Times Picayune:

http://www.nola.com/newslogs/breakingtp/index.ssf?/mtlogs/nola_Times-Picayune/archives/2005_09.html#076637

What they're doing to this country--it's so awful.

I like the bit a further down, where the banks are letting people skip one morgage payment and the like. No clue, those folks.

Yes, exactly what I was thinking. You could see those guys at Chase sitting there smiling to themselves about how truly humanitarian they think they are being. And you give them a look. And they go, "What?"

Did you see this quote from the Red Cross's FAQ:

Our presence would keep people from evacuating and encourage others to come into the city.

Yeah, I'm sure that if the Red Cross were let in to help trapped people, suddenly people from the surrounding areas will go back into NOLA. WHAT?!?!?!?! I don't even understand the logic behind that at all--even if I try putting my 'conservative cap' on to think like the enemy. So fucking crazy...

This whole thing has just been seriously unbelievable to me. One thing after another. Unreal.

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

And at every turn, they keep making it worse--they're still turning away help.

From: [identity profile] rosamundeb.livejournal.com

Thanks for the link... I didn't even know the Red Cross hadn't been let in!

So... who WAS at the SuperDome with all those people? Did the city send anybody to be in charge? WTF?

Yes, it IS important for the different government agencies to respect each other... so is the basic problem that the New Orleans gov't didn't know what the hell they were doing?

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

The National Guard was there and given orders not to let the Red Cross in--I don't know who was giving the orders--sounds like the same brilliant people who were saying shoot to kill about so-called looters.

The local gov't's communication was cut off due to the conditions. FEMA should have moved in--the feds are expected to do that in a crisis so large--so the not knowing what the hell they were doing goes all the way to the top. Take a look through what the Times-Picayune has to report in the link I gave Cyloran above--they're NOLA's paper, so its a good source.

From: [identity profile] rosamundeb.livejournal.com

Good point... if the local gov't was disabled, FEMA should have gone the hell in!

Thanks.
