So I did go out to grocery shop yesterday, but since the water was almost too hot on Thursday night, I flaked on going to the pool this weekend. Not a lot done, but thank you so much to my friends who help me to not feel too bad about that.

Here's some critters I've seen by the lake over the past month for you:

I believe that is an American Painted Lady butterfly.

A water snake hanging out.

I think that is a red-bellied woodpecker, rather than a red-headed woodpecker as you would more intuitively call it--wev.

A clymene moth sitting on the path.

I did get my furry roommates to play a little bit in turn this weekend. They were each entertained for a few minutes. Tuxie is still most entranced by string.

Thank you. Re butterfly: That is a very good photo of a very lovely insect and flower.

String IS entrancing, isn't it.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful beastie caps. That moth is especially startling. I wonder which sort of perch makes its camouflage work best.

To be fair to Tuxie, string is more interesting than most classic cat toys. ;-)

Perhaps art deco lamps are its natural habitat.

Hee!

Beautiful photos, as always! I hope when I get back it will be cool enough for us to walk around the lake again.

I just love your nature pics. Thank you, always, for sharing them with us.

*hugs you and the kitties*

The yellow butterfly looks very similar to the butterflies that were most common during my childhood. I haven't seen one like it in decades. I had forgotten them entirely. Then I saw the image and all these memories came flooding back. Cool! And thanks!
(Probably not the same species of butterfly at all, but nevertheless I got great memories just seeing your guy.)

I'm glad the pic triggered a cavalcade of great memories--that was fortunate. Yay! (-:

I love your pictures. The one of the snake is amazing.

Aw, I'm glad your kitties played a bit. :)

Thank you--I have a lot of snake pics I haven't posted yet. They've been plentiful by the lake the last couple of years. Though they'v been scarcer the past month--they don't seem to like this heat any better than we do.

What a gorgeous butterfly. I love that picture of the snake. And the moth looks like she's wearing a cloak. Very nice pictures.

oooh, snakey!

aww...I need to make sure my cats play and move around more. Especially arthritic Helo. Of course the one time he chose to play today was when I was trying to iron one of my shirts that had a dangly string tie thingie! :D He LOVES string toys.

String and snakes--something in common cats are programmed to chase. (-:

Lovely photos! Once I saw a photo of a red-headed woodpecker, I understood why the red-bellied has its name. :-)

Love the snake close-up!

Yeah--their heads are all red.

I need to post some more of my snake pics--they've been plentiful the last 2 years by the lake.
