OK, I did it. I've volunteered to serve my country.

I'm now on a waitlist to fly out at the end of the month to a hot place with palm trees that has been undergoing cataclysmic conditions, and where the holding of free elections is in doubt. I hope I can help get rid of the bad man in charge who has weapons of mass destruction.

No, I'm not talking about Iraq, silly!

Florida! I'm talking about Florida. I signed up with Emily's List to fly down and help get Democratic voters to the polls.

Along with me, will go my trusty companion Bingo. Bush doesn't stand a chance now! THAT SUCKER IS GOING DOWN! Jeb better not mess with us, that's all I can say.

Now I've got to see if I can get an absentee voter application on Tuesday. There's no problem with getting the days off at work and my supervisors' blessings--I love where I work, very lucky me. Now to get a hold of the cat sitter, and see how the wait list for the flight goes. Whoosh!

In other news, I'm sick with some puny virus and it's a beautiful holiday weekend, so meh on that. Dissertating at a snail's pace, but that's better than none--we'll see what I can get done on tomorrow's day off. Whee!

Thank you! *hugs* It's still a maybe, but they said there's a good chance the waitlist will get flights too. So we'll see. Give your purty meezer a hug for me. (-:

I will. I saw her Friday and yesterday. I wish I could bring her here to the dorm.

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

Aww, I didn't realize you didn't have her with you. That must be hard.

Another reason why you, Abandonada, are my favourite mun, indeed!

I am truly gratified to have your support. I do hope they're civilized enough to serve elevensies down there. They would, don't you think?

I hope they're civilized enough to serve KOALAS down there.

Better check the official tourist web site.

From: [identity profile] bbolger-baggins.livejournal.com

Well, if they're not, I'll have to send this fellow after them. Or Arnie, I suppose.

From: [identity profile] mererid.livejournal.com

How exciting!! When you know if you can go?

-hugs- Hope you feel better tomorrow, hon, and that it's a good day for you.

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

Exciting, but also aggravating making connections. But hey, it's more aggravating to be one of the 20,000 dead Iraqi people so, I'll deal. It might turn out to be fun, though, so that will be a bonus. I don't know when I'll know, so that's part of the aggravating bit, but it's a good thing for the people who have been doing the organizing to know they have a surplus of people to count on, so it's not in vain even if I don't get to go.

Thank you, sweetie! *snugs*

From: [identity profile] mererid.livejournal.com

Yeah, that is frustrating. But yay! I'm so proud of you and hope that you'll be able to go and have a good experience down in Florida. :D And I absolutely agree that it's not in vain--in addition from the organizers having extra peoiple to call on, it's always inspiring to witness people translating their beliefs into action, especially in this age of cynicism.

Thinking of you today hon, and hoping everything's all right. -snugs-

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

Thank you, sweetie. (-: Yeah, if I get to go, I'm hoping for it being warm enough to swim in the hotel pool in the evenings, seeing palm trees that made it through the hurricane, oranges, and maybe find a ride to see the ocean for a little bit. And I'm really hoping I won't see any bullets. Quite a wide range of hopes, huh? /-:

*snugs*

From: [identity profile] mererid.livejournal.com

Ahahaha, well one can't have everything, can one? /cynical sarcasm

-clings- It's really selfish of me to kinda wish you weren't going, isn't it?

Ahahaha, well one can't have everything, can one? /cynical sarcasm

Ehehehe!

-clings- It's really selfish of me to kinda wish you weren't going, isn't it?

Awwww. *snuggles tight* Really though, I've gotten sunburned before and was OK afterwards. (-;

From: [identity profile] mererid.livejournal.com

-hugs- I'll start harvesting the aloe vera then. ;D

Seriously though, in light of a couple of conversations we've had this week I just wanted to restate how proud I am of you for doing this. It's one thing to bitch and moan about the system, but another thing altogether to actually get off one's ass and do something about it, especially in the face of such seemingly insurmountable opposition. -sends Eowyn to help you with your charge-

From: [identity profile] mererid.livejournal.com

-snugs- Of course--that's half the fun! :D -hides another sword under the belt and packs some extra Rohirric theme music for when all seems lost and some salt, in case you have a roast chicken some night- ;D

Good luck, and I hope, however vainly, that the votes you register actually get counted.

Bingo is cute.

Do you know the name of W.'s psychological disorder? I think he's psychotic; my father, who has a degree in the stuff, says he isn't, but that there's no word in the current literature for what he is.

I'll give you a call later in the day to see if you've got time to schmooze for a bit; I'm still working on-and-off down in Delaware, and it'd be good to see you again if we could coordinate it.

best,

Joel

Well, the more of us on it, the more chance we've got of keeping them somewhere near the level, so it's worth a go.

He is, isn't he? Ty makes good stuffies. (-:

Could be--it doesn't really matter. He's got enough social defects listed already and some of his followers don't seem to mind, and even revel in them. We just got to get him out of there.

Thank you! I've run out of time today to call, but I'll try another day.

Hello. I haven't dropped off of the earth completely, just mainly. Any updates on whether or not you will be going to Florida?

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

They said they'd be able to tell us by Wednesday. So still waiting.

Your hedgehoge is adorable! Do they make any sounds? And your kitties are purty. Pippin's got attittude, and Jasper is just a beauty. (-:

From: [identity profile] barbary-coast.livejournal.com

The hedgie chitters when he's examining something. He hisses when he's startled, and he purrs when he's very happy. He slept curled up in my hand for 1 1/2 hours this evening. He's still pretty sleepy. They're nocturnal. He seems to be active at around 4:00 in the afternoon, and then again between 2:00am - 6:00am.

I love my cats. Pippin does have attitude! She's a classic tortie: intensely devoted to me, sort of standoffish with others until she gets to know them very well. Jasper is a lovely, good-natured cat. He loves to sit on my lap at all hours of the day and night. I think that he would live in my lap if he could.

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

Oh that sounds so cute! I want to hear him! (-:

How are the cats reacting to him, and he to them?

From: [identity profile] barbary-coast.livejournal.com

The cats are fascinated by him. Hedgies can't see well, so I'm not sure that Percy has even seen them. He can smell them. Jasper curled up next to him on my lap this evening and went to sleep, so I don't think that Jasper will do anything. Hard to say though.

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

Yes, I'll be going. They're sending 500 folks from DC.

How's Percy doing and how is his evolving relationship with the kitties coming along?

And how's your back recovering, btw?

From: [identity profile] spookystoy.livejournal.com

u r so kewl! Ahahah. That is awesome, I hope you get to go. If you do, I shall light my candles whilst you are in FL--it is a very bad, very scary, scary bad place.

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

Yay--I'm kewl!!! *prances* Please do--if I get to go, I will be packing a bathing suit and hoping I don't wish I packed body armor. I fear all the swing states may be scary places at election time.
