Dear Nature,
I'm sorry for using the word "hype" in respect to what you were planning for us this evening and through the night. It really was directed at the media and not you, but I do understand how it still might not sit well with you. A town next to us is already clocking 57 mph winds and we may get up to 90 mph this evening. Some of the trees out my window have been doing full dips. I know you plan on running directly over the cat I'm looking out for in Warwick. Please be kind. You're bigger than us.

So that's the latest graphic from NOAA's (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) National Hurricane Center. Apparently, Sandy will be doing pirouettes from here up to Trenton, as she spins north, delighting the whole Delmarva peninsula, southern New Jersey, and most of PA to boot. I am impressed we haven't lost power yet--good on ya, Pepco, though I'm sure we will sometime tonight, so here's hoping it won't last longer than the fridge can hold. I'm so sorry for the coastal peeps dealing with the storm surge--theirs is always the worst of it; the price that goes with looking out onto majestic beauty each day.

I am very glad I'm not in the Appalachians, where they're saying 2 feet of snow and blizzard conditions.
OTOH, they included footage from Cleveland (where I think Romney was harassing people while trying to pretend he wasn't still campaigning in the Face of Natural Disaster!) with the followup by the newsperson noting the high winds that had already gotten to town. As she blathered on about the windspeeds and so forth, I snorted to myself, "Heh. Cleveland can handle it."
I hope you get through safely. And the same for Brigit.

I got those same flickers, and I heard transformer explosions that sounded really close right before each flicker, which made me really nervous. But all of the street I can see is fine, so we must have really lucked out here. My Gwaihir sends regards to your jeep. The storm is giving me a lousy headache--meh.

Oh, good, I'm glad you said that about the headache... I thought it was just me.

No, I usually get storm headaches. It's the drop in the barometric pressure that supposedly does it for those of us who are sensitive to it. Being a weather witch is not all it's cracked up to be. And I'm sure the stress of this event just adds to it. /-: *sends soothing thoughts to your head*

It's going right on us as it turns. I think the worst of the storm surge for the coast is over now--it's what got pushed in front of the storm that is the worst. For people inland dealing with rivers, though, that will build up thru the storm. I'm glad we're both on high ground. *hugs*

Thank you! There is little risk to life and limb for my kitty homecrew and me, so no worries, but I will be delighted if we get through the night with no power loss.

Glad to hear not much threat to you and the furry fam and will look forward to hearing the 'all clear' tomorrow.....

All is fine here. The worst of it for me was a barometric pressure headache that worsened during the night, and is coming on and off in waves today--I guess the pressure is shifting quite a bit. My mom and brother's house was in the direct line of fire from the storm in south jersey, but they got through it all with no power loss or any trouble.

i managed to reinput all my work and i am now leaving for the day....
i am very saddened to see the devastation on the news page of Yahoo. I am not a religious person, but i am thinking that perhaps there are no atheists in fox-holes and hurricanes. I am praying for all of you out there. Don't discount what could happen, thumbing your nose at Mz. Sandy. Be brave by being safe.

No thumbing nose from me, m'am! The coastal peeps got it badly. As did those in the way of uprooted trees and structures. I'm hoping one small cat was not one of those.

Take her to the vet as soon as you can make an appointment, and get her blood work to make sure she doesn't have kitty FIV, and if she's OK, get her inoculations, get her checked for fleas, and get her spayed, or him neutered if it turns out he's fooled you on gender. She will be clean and dust free in no time if you keep her inside. And if she likes to be brushed, you can assist her in that. Make sure you have fresh water out for her every day. And find out what foods she likes. There's controversy over wet vs dry food, but I'm convinced by the side that says wet is better. However, one of my adopted strays only likes dry food, and a particular kind, so they sometimes have their own positions in the controversy. (-; If you live in a small space, like me, I recommend crystal litter--it absorbs the smell better and keeps my apartment from having that litter box smell, except for the moments right after they use it.
Enjoy your new baby, and if I can be of further help, let me know! (-:

Will do on all of it, especially the crystal litter because, I swear to god, something crawled up my cat and DIIIIED! My apartment is small and the fumes woke me up last night. Wow.
Thank you very much for the great advice. I'll gladly pick your brain again if her head starts spinning or whatever.

You're welcome. How's she doing? Is her fur smelling better yet, now that she's been in a few days?
