Here are some pics I took around Greenbelt Lake over the last few weeks for two lovely birthday grrls, dear
romeny and
ladysnaps!!! I hope it's been a wonderful and relaxing day for you both. <3

A passion flower. They line the path along theformerly known as the sunny western side of the lake and first bloomed fully in June, got cut back at the beginning of July, and came back with another set of blooms in August. They're blooming still. Hardy little buggers. These flowers always look like elegant beauties from outer space to me, with their strange antennae-like stamens and bright fringe. (-:

A tiger swallowtail butterfly on what I guess is a butterfly bush because it was filled with several tiger swallowtails and black swallowtails, but none of the group shots came out well. The lake in the background is almost a neon silvery sea green from the algae covering lining the surface along the shallow finger areas.

Red Top Mushroom. They popped up in droves around the lake after Hurricane Irene came through. We've got a collection of interesting mushrooms growing around the lake like I've never seen before. They are delighted with the wet, dark weather we've been getting the past few weeks and are bringing neon bright colors in place of the truant sun. I call these mushrooms hobbitbane, because they're so temptingly pretty, but would make hobbitlings sick if they ate them. Which has been a nibbling plot bunny for me.

The plume of a kind of grain grass. It is bordering a homestead and I'm not sure if it was an ornamental planting or a weed, but I loved the graceful silvery droop of its plume.

The full moon rising over the trees, as reflected in the lake at dusk. The moon looks like a little lantern hanging from a densely needled fir branch. It also looks very much like a scene out of a Monet painting to me. I hope you enjoyed these.
