HAPPY BIRTHDAY BILBO, FRODO, AND (first drafted, never forgotten) BINGO!!!

I ran out of time last year to report on last September's moot before posting about this cake and the birthday party at Liberatore's restaurant. This is the cake I made last September for our Maryland Moot for these 3 hobbitses' birthday, as well as near enough birthday grrls [livejournal.com profile] lbilover, [livejournal.com profile] romeny, and [livejournal.com profile] claudia603.

I want to add happy birthday wishes to other near enough birthdayed hobbit lovers [livejournal.com profile] ladysnaps and [personal profile] sophinisba!!!

I took these first couple of pics in the tin before transporting the cake "just in case." Everything on the cake was edible except for the candles and hobbits, unfortunately. The flagstones were a particularly delicious chocolate and the mushrooms around the edges were a yummy jelly. I was most happy with how the flagstone path came out--I put silver sugar between the stones for sand. I was least happy with what I had for bricks around the door--I found better ones for next time I try this cake. (-: The base was yellow cake and the dome of Bag End itself was chocolate cake and the icing was buttercreme.

But thankfully, transport went fine and it made it to the restaurant except for my having to remove the tree on top to enclose it. The made-on-the-spot trees were a little sad. Linzer cookies make good hobbit windows. That's my Arwen and Eowyn sitting behind the cake with Bingo and Sam. I wish I had a Bilbo figure for the cake to go with Frodo/BIngo and Sam.

To the side of the cake you can just make out the box of matches from Bilbo Baggins Restaurant in Arlington I brought to light the candles. I like how it looks like the nazgul standing on the table behind the cake looks like he's coming over the hill and bringing his kitty to the party.

And we have lift-off!

We blew out the candles before there was a new scouring of Bag End. And then we ate it! The birthday hobbitses would demand no less.

That cake was awesome, and was really "the icing on the cake" of our feast/party.
