Happy Froday!

OK now, Maryland Area Hobbit Posse,

I wanna make sure I get my ticket for the

FotR EE on Tuesday, June 14th at 7 pm

by this Monday. I think L. is going to join me. The ticket prices seem to have been standardized at all the theaters at $12.50 per show including the Fandango charge. Who is with me? It's showing in a number of theaters in the area. My suggestion is the Snowden Square Theater in Columbia, MD because Columbia is central for DC and Baltimore peeps, and that theater is lots easier to park at and get close to the theater than the one at Columbia Mall that is also showing the EE's. If you have a preference for another theater in the area please say so now.

Who else also wants to get their tickets for

TTT EE Tuesday 21st at 7 pm
RotK EE Tuesday 28th at 7 pm

Let's see if we can get that all settled in this thread.

Also it's mountain laurel blooming time:

Mountain Laurel at Greenbelt Lake, early bloomer 5-2011

This is an early blooming one last week here at Greenbelt Lake. More are blooming this year around the lake than I've seen before. But the really spectacular place to see mountain laurels bloom is down at Calvert Cliffs State Park in southern MD, which is just covered in them. They should be just about peaking now, and I'm planning to drive down there sometime this coming week between tomorrow and Memorial Day. Is anyone interested in coming with me (and sharing in gas expenses if you can), and we could decide on which day would be good? Cali and I went on this weekend last year and it was gorgeous, and it should be even prettier this year. What say you?

Those flowers are stunning. I've never seen anything quite like them. Enjoy your roadtrip!

I have to say no to both the movie and Calvert Clifts. I really don't want to do that drive on a work day & this week through Memorial Weekend, we're painting the dining room and may be out of town.

If you do get a moot together however with certain out of state folk, I'd try to meet up for a meal or something. Thanks for coming up with something for us though.

i am almost compelled to leave Calif....wish i could join you, sounds wonderful!

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

I wish you could, too! Plan some Memorial Day weekend to come out here--the mountain laurels are usually blooming around then. I hope all is well with you. *hugs*

heya......that would be grand, indeed, to do that.....

I think of you often and send good thoughts your way. Things are even more difficult than usual at work these days....but I am fortunate to have work, eh! And for you??? how are you getting on?

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

I think of you too. I'm sorry work is being so hard. *hugs you gently, makes you put up your feet and brings you tea and a purring kitty*

Pretty well, and just wonderfully on nice May days like today when I can get my walk in around the lake and spot baltimore orioles in the trees. As long as I keep the worrying at bay, it's a privilege to be unemployed this time of year. I had to decline going to a favorite prof's retirement party up in NJ today due to gas prices, but I'm at peace with the trade-off and happy to be here. And I'm glad to be drawing again, even if I'm only getting to do one sketch a week. I'm trying to train myself to get used to how few hours there is in a day and accept it. (-:

ah, tea and putting feet up with kitties in tow is a happy and welcome moment at any time.......

I don't know about you, but age has snuck up on me stealthily ...things i could easily do ten years ago are becoming beyond me. Far more distressing than the physical limits (and how long it takes me, comparatively, to do tasks) are the mental ones, especially the artistic ones. So I can very much understand the idea that a day is a liquid sort of a thing, and it contains, in this moment, what is appropriate unto me, along with all the especial constraints (or non-constraints) that apply to me in the here-and-now.

I've been unemployed for long stretches of time in the past, so I think I can imagine what you're going through. Although the down time is nice in so many ways, it has its own little strangenesses. I find myself accomplishing less, with more time, than if I am stressed from the 'I've no time" of being in full-time harness. And the writing simply goes away from me in times of certain stresses. (and oddly, appears strongly in other sorts of stressful situations).

I hope that you can manage to get a lot of personal mileage out of this quiet time. May it be a place of calm, of learning, of doing, of being and loving. Sometimes, in the most turned-down on places, we find ourselves in the most victorious way.

with love,

jan

Beautiful lacy flowers! *loves*

Oh, I wish I could come for that, but no traveling this summer while M. is here, alas! Hopefully something will come up this coming year and I will be able to get away for a time!

This pic is worth clicking on a couple of times to bring it to full size (way bigger than our monitors) to see the details of textures and colors in the buds and blossoms.

I was talking to Tree about getting something together for Columbus Day weekend in October when the leaves are starting to turn here.

That might be a do-able weekend...I'll have to see what my finances are like closer to the time..

Argh, why do they have to be showing really long movies on a worknight?? >_< I'm only able to do RotK, to be honest (I'll have to be doing laundry/packing on the 14th, and I'll be out of town on the 21st), but that alone might be worth it... hrm.

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

It is weird they picked Tuesdays and not a Friday or Saturday, but I guess AMC doesn't want to risk not running a first run movie on those nights. Perhaps AMC underestimates our obsessiveness and the number of fans who may share it. (-;

Do you want to do RotK at Snowden Square? Another reason I'm partial to it is that when I went to see FotR a gazillion times when it was first out, I saw it in practically every theater in the area and Snowden Square had the sharpest focus and best sound. Being 10 years ago, I doubt they have the same equipment, though, and really hope they don't--but just in case there is something the management there is still doing right, it's worth giving them a shot.

Are you interested in going down to Calvert Cliffs again tomorrow afternoon?
ancalime8301: (ancalime)

From: [personal profile] ancalime8301

Yeah, that's my assumption too.

Sure, I might as well go for it. :) It'd be nice to see RotK on the big screen again.

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

I was just going to email you.(-: Sure--I have a cold, but it's a little better today, so I think it will be better tomorrow. Is the Snowden Square theater good?

I went to the one in Bowie for TTT and its sound was really not as good as Snowden Square's. Neither theater was even half way full, so I"m sure we can get the online tickets tonight.

Did you want to get dinner somewhere beforehand?
ancalime8301: (ancalime)

From: [personal profile] ancalime8301

Haha. Great minds think alike. :)

Yep, Snowden Square sounds good. You're the connoisseur, so whatever you suggest is fine by me! And I'm happy to hear we still have a chance at tickets -I was wondering about that part. :p

Dinner before would be awesome. What's in the area?

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

Here's the link for getting your ticket.

I'd like to get to the theater around 6:30 and I want to give us over 30 minutes to get there due to traffic, so I can pick you up 4:15-4:30. I can't do anything expensive. Since I did Le Madaleine's the other week, I'd rather go for something else. Do you feel like Chevy's here in Greenbelt and then heading to Columbia, or pizza at a Three Brothers in Columbia near Snowden Square? Those would be my first 2 choices.

There's also a couple of other pizza places I've never tried not far off rt 175 in Columbia if you don't like 3 Brothers--I'm always willing to try a new pizza. There's a couple other places that wouldn't be expensive near the theater like a New York Deli and some fast food places. There's a couple of Indian places, sushi, Olive Garden, Ruby Tuesday, and a Red Lobster near the theater, but I'd rather do less expensive than those.

What say you?

From: [personal profile] ancalime8301

Ticket: acquired. :)

4:15-4:30 will work fine for me, and omg, yes, ditto here with the not-expensive part. I'd prefer pizza over Chevy's, and I'm good with trying a new place if you'd like to. :)

Ooh, I would love to come to FOTR on the 14th! I'm in Canada right now visiting family but I'll be back by then. The Columbia theater looks easy to get to, yay. Howfor do I get a ticket? :)

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

Yay!!! It will be great to see you again! Then there's 3 of us for FotR thus far. Here's where you get your ticket. (-:

From: [identity profile] obeliamedusa.livejournal.com

Thanks; I just bought my ticket. :) Yay! It will be great to see you again, too. This will be fun! :D

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

Yay!!!! I'll go buy mine, too, then. (-: Do you want to meet for dinner with L. and me beforehand? Le Madeleines is close by and is very hobbity.

From: [identity profile] lovethosehobbit.livejournal.com

I just had a wonderful idea!!! Why couldn't we Moot on that weekend and stay long enough for the FOTR EE??? what do you think? is it only me that is so desperate to moot?? I would LOVE to go with you guys, seriously.

It'd be fine with me, and you are more than welcome to stay with me. So far, it's obeliamedusa, my friend L, and me who are going to see FotR EE. Go talk to romeny and let her know you're thinking of coming and maybe she'll want to come. I'm not sure how to get any of the rest interested in coming. *hugs*

It'll be nice to see you again; didn't have very long last time! :) I'll be around that weekend, too, if you do end up coming then.

Sadly, I won't even be able to see the movies here in MA - I hope you can get a nice group together and have lots of fun!!

What an unusual flower - I've never seen that before. Very pretty!!

*hugs*

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

That really sucks that there are no theaters showing it nearby you. )-: Thank you!!!

I will have to post more pics. (-:

Hi! Back from my mom's and the proud owner of tickets to the EE's, but in Minneapolis, at the only theatre in the only city in Minnesota that's going to participate. It's expensive (13.50 each for the tickets, 40.00 each time for the gas), but lots cheaper than trying to see the concert-to-film at Radio City Music Hall in New York, lol. I'm excited!

I hope you get a group to go, Lavender. I'll be going on my own. I just hope the audience is attentive, not the fan showings of the trilogy I've attended in the past, which are more like watching the films in someone's living room at a sleep-over, but with hundreds of people stuffed into the living room, all chattering and laughing and getting up and down every other minute. ;)

Welcome back! I hope you didn't toally exhaust yourself getting things done for your mom like the great daughter you are. At least you got some nice weather for a change.

Yay!!! I will be going and we can all chat about it online afterwards. (-:

I've started drawing again while you were away here and here.

Good morning! I will take a look when I get back home this afternoon.
