Happy Froday!
OK now, Maryland Area Hobbit Posse,
I wanna make sure I get my ticket for the
FotR EE on Tuesday, June 14th at 7 pm
by this Monday. I think L. is going to join me. The ticket prices seem to have been standardized at all the theaters at $12.50 per show including the Fandango charge. Who is with me? It's showing in a number of theaters in the area. My suggestion is the Snowden Square Theater in Columbia, MD because Columbia is central for DC and Baltimore peeps, and that theater is lots easier to park at and get close to the theater than the one at Columbia Mall that is also showing the EE's. If you have a preference for another theater in the area please say so now.
Who else also wants to get their tickets for
TTT EE Tuesday 21st at 7 pm
RotK EE Tuesday 28th at 7 pm
Let's see if we can get that all settled in this thread.
Also it's mountain laurel blooming time:
This is an early blooming one last week here at Greenbelt Lake. More are blooming this year around the lake than I've seen before. But the really spectacular place to see mountain laurels bloom is down at Calvert Cliffs State Park in southern MD, which is just covered in them. They should be just about peaking now, and I'm planning to drive down there sometime this coming week between tomorrow and Memorial Day. Is anyone interested in coming with me (and sharing in gas expenses if you can), and we could decide on which day would be good? Cali and I went on this weekend last year and it was gorgeous, and it should be even prettier this year. What say you?

If you do get a moot together however with certain out of state folk, I'd try to meet up for a meal or something. Thanks for coming up with something for us though.

I think of you often and send good thoughts your way. Things are even more difficult than usual at work these days....but I am fortunate to have work, eh! And for you??? how are you getting on?

Pretty well, and just wonderfully on nice May days like today when I can get my walk in around the lake and spot baltimore orioles in the trees. As long as I keep the worrying at bay, it's a privilege to be unemployed this time of year. I had to decline going to a favorite prof's retirement party up in NJ today due to gas prices, but I'm at peace with the trade-off and happy to be here. And I'm glad to be drawing again, even if I'm only getting to do one sketch a week. I'm trying to train myself to get used to how few hours there is in a day and accept it. (-:

I don't know about you, but age has snuck up on me stealthily ...things i could easily do ten years ago are becoming beyond me. Far more distressing than the physical limits (and how long it takes me, comparatively, to do tasks) are the mental ones, especially the artistic ones. So I can very much understand the idea that a day is a liquid sort of a thing, and it contains, in this moment, what is appropriate unto me, along with all the especial constraints (or non-constraints) that apply to me in the here-and-now.
I've been unemployed for long stretches of time in the past, so I think I can imagine what you're going through. Although the down time is nice in so many ways, it has its own little strangenesses. I find myself accomplishing less, with more time, than if I am stressed from the 'I've no time" of being in full-time harness. And the writing simply goes away from me in times of certain stresses. (and oddly, appears strongly in other sorts of stressful situations).
I hope that you can manage to get a lot of personal mileage out of this quiet time. May it be a place of calm, of learning, of doing, of being and loving. Sometimes, in the most turned-down on places, we find ourselves in the most victorious way.
with love,
jan

Oh, I wish I could come for that, but no traveling this summer while M. is here, alas! Hopefully something will come up this coming year and I will be able to get away for a time!

I was talking to Tree about getting something together for Columbus Day weekend in October when the leaves are starting to turn here.

Do you want to do RotK at Snowden Square? Another reason I'm partial to it is that when I went to see FotR a gazillion times when it was first out, I saw it in practically every theater in the area and Snowden Square had the sharpest focus and best sound. Being 10 years ago, I doubt they have the same equipment, though, and really hope they don't--but just in case there is something the management there is still doing right, it's worth giving them a shot.
Are you interested in going down to Calvert Cliffs again tomorrow afternoon?

Sure, I might as well go for it. :) It'd be nice to see RotK on the big screen again.

I went to the one in Bowie for TTT and its sound was really not as good as Snowden Square's. Neither theater was even half way full, so I"m sure we can get the online tickets tonight.
Did you want to get dinner somewhere beforehand?
From:

Yep, Snowden Square sounds good. You're the connoisseur, so whatever you suggest is fine by me! And I'm happy to hear we still have a chance at tickets -I was wondering about that part. :p
Dinner before would be awesome. What's in the area?

I'd like to get to the theater around 6:30 and I want to give us over 30 minutes to get there due to traffic, so I can pick you up 4:15-4:30. I can't do anything expensive. Since I did Le Madaleine's the other week, I'd rather go for something else. Do you feel like Chevy's here in Greenbelt and then heading to Columbia, or pizza at a Three Brothers in Columbia near Snowden Square? Those would be my first 2 choices.
There's also a couple of other pizza places I've never tried not far off rt 175 in Columbia if you don't like 3 Brothers--I'm always willing to try a new pizza. There's a couple other places that wouldn't be expensive near the theater like a New York Deli and some fast food places. There's a couple of Indian places, sushi, Olive Garden, Ruby Tuesday, and a Red Lobster near the theater, but I'd rather do less expensive than those.
What say you?

4:15-4:30 will work fine for me, and omg, yes, ditto here with the not-expensive part. I'd prefer pizza over Chevy's, and I'm good with trying a new place if you'd like to. :)

I hope you get a group to go, Lavender. I'll be going on my own. I just hope the audience is attentive, not the fan showings of the trilogy I've attended in the past, which are more like watching the films in someone's living room at a sleep-over, but with hundreds of people stuffed into the living room, all chattering and laughing and getting up and down every other minute. ;)

Yay!!! I will be going and we can all chat about it online afterwards. (-:
I've started drawing again while you were away here and here.
