We didn't get enough snow on Friday to close things, but since it was largely a crap and crazy-making week for me and my throat was feeling a little scratchy, I took off Friday from work to have a do-over weekend and de-stress. Saki does have hyperthyroidism, but it's mild and we've caught it at the start, so we don't have to rush the treatments, but start her on pills this week and see how she does with that.

I'm already feeling lucky I had a day saved up to take off, and more relaxed, so it was a good plan. The sun came out at rising on Friday for a little while and made the little bit of snow we got glisten. So here are some pics of the pretty out my apartment windows:

I didn't get a picture, but I spotted a huge red hawk hanging out on one of the tree tops for a while. And keeping with the theme of red, I saw a gorgeous red fox trotting across the train tracks for the Amtrak line while I was riding Metro this morning to work.

I'll post some more snow pics next entry.

Beautiful pictures. I like the middle one in particular.
Poor Saki...*pets*

*waves from lurkdom*

I don't live too far from you (Northern Virginia) and used to live in the Greenbelt area, so I've been enjoying your photographs very much.

I was outside early Friday morning, clearing the first round of snow off the cars just as the sun was coming up. The sunrise shining through the clouds made the world glow, soft and pink, like the inside of a pearl - it was gorgeous. A short while later, I drove to work in bright sunshine and blue sky but with ominous clouds to the southwest. Within minutes a mini-blizzard was under way, closing schools and wreaking havoc with commuters in our area!

Your pictures beautifully convey the beauty and stillness of the early morning. Nobody believed me at how perfect it was, early on. Now I have pictures to prove it! Thank you! I'll take one of this for my desktop at work, to remind myself of the loveliness of that morning.

I was off on Friday too & it was good not to have to rush out anywhere. Hope you are feeling better.

Always good to take a day off when you're not feeling 100 percent AND it's snowing! :) I know that's my plan!

Brr! It's so chilly here!

naww...Saki!

It's lovely to see the sun on the snow. We've had plenty of snow here, but little sun. :-(

Oh gosh. Honey, thank you so much for the beautiful, beautiful pics.

What beautiful pictures... I like the first one particular.

And I hope you and your cat get better soon.

I'm glad you caught Saki's problem early and it's treatable. *pets her* And you take care of yourself, too! *hugs you*

And lovely snowy pics!!

Thank you!

*she rolls on her head and purrs back at you* Organic planned obsolescence sucks--we just have to deal.

Welcome! I've seen your name around the fandom--probably mainly middleearthnews. Thank you! (-:

We got clouds the rest of the day but I heard nothing of that blizzard ya'll got. The weather can be so very different between the VA and MD sides of the built-up swamp that is DC, just across 30 or so miles--it's very weird.

I'm so glad I can provide the evidence of the day for you--take that, doubters! (-; I'll be posting a few more pics in the next couple of entries. Please let me know which pic you select for your desktop--I'll be curious. (-:

Thank you, hon! I am--taking that day really made the difference. I just hope I don't come down with anything before I can save up another leave day.

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

Thank you! I am--I just needed a relaxing couple of days to recoup. *squooshes you, while Saki shimmies her tail, presses her chin against your hand, and purrs*

Yeah, that combo, plus having one leave day beckoning did it, but I think I needed that day for my all around health, anyway. *hugs you* The midwest sounds like a tough place to be.

Saki meowed aaaaalll the way to the vet's, then settled down for the trip home, as is her usual, silly thing.

I can take the cold as long as I get some sun--we've had a little bit more of it this week. The midwest sounds like it can be harsher than out here. *snuggles you*

Thank you! I love those little holly trees under my window. (-:

Thanks again--I am doing better. Saki should get better, too--the treatment has a very good success rate and I'm feeling better about it as I research it. The hard part, though, is the 2 weeks of isolation she'll have to go through after it--that's my main worry now.

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

Yeah--it's common in cats. And I gots a theory that it's not a disease, but an adaptation--it hits them when they're old enough to be slowed down, and makes them hyperactive--that can be useful in the wild, and even if you're burning the candle at both ends, you might last a little longer for it. But Saki's not in the wild and I want her living longer still. Anyway, I'm doing research, and the treatment won't be bad--it's the 2 weeks of isolation she'll need after it that will be the hard part to deal with. *she rolls on her head and purrs* Thank you, hon! That day off really helped. *squooshes you tight*

From: [identity profile] rainbowobsidian.livejournal.com

2 weeks of isolation... That sounds hard. I can understand, that you are worried, but sometimes such things are necessary. *hugs and pets Saki*

And on a happy note... That's a really beautiful icon. With the big and small snowflakes falling it gains even more depth as it already has by direction of view. :-)

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

I'm reading more, and it might not be as bad as that--they keep her for 3-4 days. Then when I get her home, I won't have to totally isolate her, but just limit snuggle time to half an hour a day, so I may have to shut her out of the bedroom at night, but I don't have to confine her. She and Tuxie sleep next to each other, but usually not intertwined, so I may not have to shut her away from him, either. Anyway, this will all go easier on her if we do it in the summer, and since we don't have to rush it, it should work out. Thank you for your concern. *squooshes you, and Saki, non-radioactively, nuzzles you*

Isn't it pretty? I snagged it at an icon offering community, with credit--feel free to do the same if you'd like--we got to get you iconized, anyway. (-: I hadn't noticed the tiered snowflake effect going on there until you mentioned it--you're right--very cool.

They're all fantastic and magical!! You're so great in taking pictures, I'm almost mesmerized, it's like looking at an enchanted place.

*hugs you*

I'm glad you caught the illness early and that there is help for Saki!!

Lovely pics. :)

From: [identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com

I wrap her pill in a little ball of cheese spread, so she's actually enjoying being pilled quite a bit and loves her new twice a day cheese treat. So giving her the medicine has been really easy, for which I'm grateful.

Thank you, hon! *hugs*

Thank you, Mely!!! We're getting slammed with a bigger snow storm now--it sure is pretty out.

*squooshes you*
