I was just looking through some of my old email correspondences for my paper notes and was amused by one from 2/11/02:
"I spent some time in the book store looking thru some of the Christopher Tolkien editions Friday night. You know what the smartest move Tolkien ever made was? Changing Frodo's name from what he originally had planned. Do you know what he had first named him? Bingo. That's right--Bingo. Bingo Baggins. And do you know what Strider's name was? Trotter. Yep. And he was originally a big hobbit. Thank god for years of careful rewriting and editing!" Ehehehehe!
