Here's info on the seismic zone in VA.

We may have broken the record over one that hit here in 1897 by a tenth of a point. I'm hoping this one counts for this century and not a late one for the last one. They said there we should only get one this big once a century and I'm gonna hold them to it, dammit.

I hope they're right about that. I could be perfectly happy if I never feel another quake.

I hope they are right. One of those a lifetime is more than enough.

I very much hope they are right about that!!!

Yeah. I thought it lasted about 2 minutes. Or was it less and my time sense just went bonkers? There were a bunch of shakes before stuff started falling down in here. How long did you think it went on?

Here's hoping that we don't have to go through one of these again. That was unnerving.

*hugs* Yeah, now we just buckle down for the hurricane--adagsgdfadfadfahsda!!!!!

Is everything Ok at your place?

And I've always wanted Robin-Errol's hat.

I doubt that it lasted a minute where I was, but I wouldn't swear to it. Your time sense does get skewed when something like that happens. I couldn't be sure how long it lasted, to tell you the truth.

That would only be fair. lol

Everything is ok here. A few things fell from shelves but nothing appears to be broken. I checked the house for structural damage but don't see anything.

My vacuum clean just broke, but that had nothing to do with the earthquake. ;>

How about you?

I had a glass candlestick jump off the display case it was on top of, but better that than the Bag End model sitting in the display case. My bodhran fell on top of the shards, but it's fine. Then Ms. Moo lay down on one of the shards, but she's OK. I've got that vacuumed up, and put away the other things that fell.

Really! I think the fair part is that east coast earthquakes can be felt and do damage much further away than west coast ones, since ours don't' get as seismically big as theirs do. (-:

It did shake a bunch of times before stuff started falling, so it was more than a few seconds, but my time sense must have gotten skewed as I went into alert mode. I really thought it was over a minute, but I'm realizing there's still some adrenaline pumped into my system--I didn't think I was that affected. So if there's been any more mlid tremors I wouldn't be able to tell.

Take care of you! *hugs*

Thanks, Lavender. That piece was really helpful, explaining the structure of the land, and why a smaller earthquake could be felt over such a wide area.

You're welcome, mechtild! It clarified things well for me.
