Stupid, Lazy U.S. Media

I'm listening to NPR this morning, and they report about the demonstrations in Bahrain, and then they conclude "protests continue in numerous Middle Eastern and north African countries." Would it be too much to name them? If people are risking being shot to death in these places, can't you at least name the places? Yemen, Jordan, Libya, Algeria, Morocco--how bout that? And just forget the Washington Post to fill you in on just some of it unless you dig through several links deep.

They'd rather report on Lindsay Lohan's latest woes. The American "news" media is becoming a joke.

Yeah, I expect that crap from the networks. Though NPR has it's problems, I didn't expect it to just pretty much say, "a bunch of African countries" and leave it at that.

Agree very much.

Especially since it would have taken less air time to name 3 or 4 of the countries instead of the words they took to make the stupid generalization.

I can't bear it when the News doesn't give you the full news. And I really REALLY can't bear it when all they do is sit in front of a computer and tell you what the internet says. I can find that out myself, thank you.

I wouldn't mind if they did tell us what can be found on the internet if they did their research. They can be paid to watch and sift through live feeds we don't have time to watch, and do the background checks, anywhere they can't get reporters on the ground. But I'd be happy if they just used the AP and Reuters releases intelligently.

The Washington Post is worthless anymore. Likewise CNN for the most part. I get my news from NPR and BBC News. BBC News is usually right on top of things.

Yeah, it's just good for local stuff, really. I haven't been able to find the BBC on radio around here, except for late Sat night on 88.5. Do you get it more regularly on radio, and if so, happen to have that dial number?

I've been listening to NPR during my morning and evening commute - they're usually pretty good. So if THEY aren't giving the best info I can't even imagine how bad the info is on Fox and other networks.

I've been thinking of you - how are you doing? *hugs*

Well, FOX is misinformation no matter what.

Awww, ty, hon! I love my gopher gift--so cute!

Mostly I'm doing good--getting to exercise everyday and get the right amount of sleep, things I couldn't do while working 11 hour days due to the commute, is wonderful. And having 2 interviews last week this soon felt good, even if I don't get them. I've been using my time efficiently and I was looking forward to the possibility of a few months at home to get my home in order and myself well-exercised, since I saved for just such an event. But I'm getting a little scared about finances--just got my COBRA quote--$700/month, which is double what it was 3 years ago. Today I've been applying to different options I've found and what looked good in research is not looking good in actuality. I tried to save enough so I wouldn't have to worry if it took a year to find something, or more with extended federal benefits, but now I'm not so sure it'll hold out. I have some more options to look into on Tuesday, so trying to hold my horses and chill.

OMG - COBRA. I remember the shock when I saw how much COBRA was going to cost after my last job - it was more than double what it was several years ago. I was so happy when I got my current job and could stop paying the monthly COBRA!!

I'm glad to hear you are hanging in there and even exercising and trying to do good with your time right now. I sure hope that you can find something you like and that is closer to you.

I'm so glad you like the mystery gift - I didn't know WHAT it was going to be when I sent it!!
