Maryland Moot June 2016?

So is anyone up for a Maryland Moot next year? Our last was in Dec of 2012 for the first Hobbit film.

The end of April, beginning of May is often beautiful here, but not so good for those of the hobbit posse on academic calendars.

So I was thinking, how about the first weekend in June (6/3-6/6)? Is everyone's semester done then?

The weather is often still temperate here the beginning of June and roses are out, and it's usually quite lovely--though sometimes it can be stinky hot. This would be the week after the Memorial Day weekend. I figured air fares and airport congestion would be worse on Memorial Day weekend, but would be just as happy to have it then, if it were better for people, but I suspect that would be cutting it close for those finishing out semesters.

Or would you not be available until autumn?

What say you? Who is up for it?

Season would not be an issue for me but I can't travel the first three/four work days of each month. But if everything else works out, I'll be up for it.

OK--first weekend of any month is out then. Between you and Claudia, maybe Memorial Day weekend would be better. It certainly is better for me since I'd already have that Monday off.

My 2 cents is that you should offer a variety of options date-wise and have people vote.

I did that last time and it didn't work so well--this is actually working better so far. Better to get discussion going to suss out what people want and so everyone can see what other people need, rather than just coming by and ticking off boxes.

It's hard for me to plan that far in advance, of course, but Memorial Day would probably be really good for me. Early May, I MIGHT be able to make work, depending on what is going on with assessments at school, but it would have to be a three-day weekend only (I will only have one personal day left). I know M. will be likely to come soon after Memorial Day, in early to mid June, although that first weekend in June might well work....

Is that too far away? If I said, let's do a moot this fall, like late October, or second week in November, would that be possible/better? No pressure--just sussing everyone out--trying to do this by consensus rather than majority vote.

First week of ANY month that is before the 5th is out for baranduin, so no first week in June--Memorial Day is looking better, of those 2 weekends.

nooo, this fall would not work at all (October is horrible for me at work and as far as extra work). Definitely that Memorial Day/arly June option would be far better. I just meant that it's very far from now for me so it's difficult for me to know for sure what will be happening...but it looks good for right now :)

let me just say this: in the past 9 years, I've had a whole FOUR days of vaca (that is, dates that are not auto holidays, like xmas and such).

When i came to NY, i took ONE day off work (the Friday before the show at RCMH).

i must be pretty damn important, eh.

It sucks so much to not be given paid leave days. *hugs*

I was very glad but wistful about the President requiring federal contractors to give paid sick leave because back in the fall of 2013 when I was working at the SEC, I had no sick leave and had to take off lots of days without pay to deal with my breast cancer diagnosis, and that resulted in my getting less workers comp after I got hit by the car the following spring. I'm glad it will be better for other contractors dealing with the like soon, and that the lousy contracting company I worked for then will have to pay up. Now, about your damned company . . .

I'm frustrated with such nasty behavior. I would say something else, but it's a public LJ. Still you know me well enough to know that there can be some potty (as opposed to 'party') in my mouth. So...just consider it said.

thanks....i'm focusing on my writing, which makes me happy, since the more i talk/write about Anvil, the more enraged i become. Rage is useless unless you use it to do something. Since that isn't the case, focusing on writing!

Yay on writing! BTW, I have your book. I don't' know when I'm going to get a chance to read it--it's beautiful--since I do my reading on kindle for mac these days, and read while I have meals, but i"ll have to work in time with your book.

well, thank you so much for buying it. For this particular book at least, I think the experience will only be enhanced by it being in hard copy. It actually does read pretty fast, being that those 200+ pages prolly really equate to something more like 50 in terms of actual reading time!

Autumn is the most reliably lovely time here--is that why you'd rather fall, or do you have something going on in the spring? I'm thinking it's too late to call for one this fall or is it?

Would you rather wait until next fall than have it in the spring? Fall here is generally nice mid-September thru mid-November, unless we get a late heat wave or a hurricane, and the end of October is the prettiest time.

Autumn is my favorite season, but it's just spring is usually pretty busy for me. Lots of family stuff happens here in the spring. :)

It's too late for me for this fall. Other family issues and expenses would make it too hard this year.

Gotcha. Autumn is definitely what Maryland does best, but not this autumn then--that's too soon for everyone. Memorial Day is looking good for a bunch of people. I sure hope you can swing it--I'd love to see you again. But it's not a sure thing until we hear what's good for Julia and Joyce--if they need it pushed to the summer or next autumn, then we will go with that.

From what I see here, I think Memorial Day weekend works best for everyone else. I have a lot of other issues that could present themselves by then anyway. I'd hate to pick another weekend because of me and not be able to make it anyway. :(

Yay! I'm fine with everyone coming during stinky hot summer, and it's probably fine with this group who probably won't be dragged outside anyway, but spring and fall is the prettiest here and great to be out in, but the teachers among us are probably better with spring than fall. Winter there's too much risk of people being snowed out on one end or the other.

Yay! Absolutely, please! I wouldn't put it out here if everyone wasn't invited and yay that you would come! Since seeing what has been said above, I want to now avoid the first weekend of any month that starts before the 5th, so Memorial Day weekend, which is May 27-30th, is looking like more of a possibility than the first week in June--would that work for you? But no fixed date yet--I'm trying to see what season works for everyone and waiting for more people to show up and speak their preferences. So what restrictions and wants do you have on timing?

If the cats cooperate and are healthy then Memorial Day weekend would work or June would work. As long as I have time to get the days off work and the cats stay well. ( you know my cat issue because you have it too.). I would love to come if it all works out.

Whether I could come depends on what I end up doing during Spring Break (I'm kinda hoping to head out MD way then, since my spring break lines up with a library conference I used to attend regularly), but it's a possibility. Our spring semester will be over before May even begins, so regular classes won't be a concern! Library staffing, on the other hand, who knows. :-p

So if you wound up coming in March, you wouldn't want to come back this way in May or June then? I think Claudia and Hanarobi had plans in March. Also possible snow always makes March more contingent.
