Beauty beneath our feet . . .

. . . because we need the reminder. Here's some pics from down by the lake the weekend before last, as spring declared its commencement.

DSCN1035
A very fluffy double daffodil ready for its close-up.

DSCN0981
Here's one of the little wildflowers that have run riot in all the brown patches among the grass. I don't know its name . . .

DSCN0991
. . . but they are hanging out and partying with forget-me-nots all through the grass. My camera has trouble with certain shades of blue and purples, ironically enough, so it always washes out the blueness of these flowers.

DSCN0994
And here's an adorable little hobbit lass practicing her stone throwing skills so she can help protect the Shire.

DSCN1019
Swamp cabbages: almost more green than you can possibly handle first thing in the spring. They make me happy--they spring out of the ground so big and green, they look like a child drew them onto the landscape with her chartreuse crayon.

DSCN1056
Daffodils along a path that had not yet shed winter's grip. But spring has since won there, all the same.

DSCN1068
Myrtle flowers bringing pieces of the sky down to live among the fallen leaves.

Greenbelt Lake, 4-6-13
My beloved hard-working Bradford pears that line many of the roads in this area with a snowy display first thing in the spring before the cherries get going. Like the cherries, they went into bloom and went past peak all in a day or two due to last week's summer temps, so it wasn't a great year for them. Still, we're supposed to have good spring weather for the next few weeks, so a couple of waves of spring blossoms that have been waiting for their chance are all blooming at once now. I will chronicle their displays as I can.

Love to you all! *hugs*

I think that's ajuga or bugle or bugleweed (all common names for it). Lovely photos, and good to see spring finally arriving.

As ibilover says, your first anon flower is a member of the bugle family. The most similar over here would be called self-heal (there's also a pinker wound-wort in the same large family of medicinal and culinary plants). Your forget-me-not would be called speedwell over here as f-m-n is a different plant/family entirely, heh. I love the furled leaves of the swamp cabbage and your description. My mum would've called your myrtle a periwinkle. Spring also arrived for us this last week but from wintery origins.

I will chronicle their displays as I can.

That chronicling is very much welcome! Thank you for posting those photos, as it's a treat to see these sights from a land far away that is still damn cold!

Beautiful!

We're having torrential rainfall here for the next few days. I keep telling myself "April showers bring May flowers" :)

(my orchid bit the dust, btw......but my stock thrives apace!)
