Spun Silver Stump

So there's this stripped-down, bark-less tree stump along the path around the lake which has wonderful patterns in it that I really like.

DSCN1819
In the right light, it looks like spun silver. I took these shots in April.

See all the shades and patterns?

I'm not sure if the first pic or this one is my favorite. This one has more textures.

Such odd little swirls.

Yay for natural Picasso boobies and paisley patterns! A very retro stump you feel like pulling up an orange plastic chair and sitting down next to.

Here's to give you an idea of what the whole stump looks like. The swirls I'm looking at above are toward the bottom center of it.

So which pic do you like best?

I like the first cap best. And here's my contribution:

That's awe-inspiring. Those close ups show so much people miss with the naked eye. I think the second is my favorite. You could get lost in those swirls and hints of color.

That's the only cap I have. :-)

That is a very interesting stump. I think the second from last would be my favorite. :)

I agree -- I think it looks so Entish!

The first one should be used for book binding, like marbled end papers.

Ooooh, I like them. If I didn't know that was wood, I might think it was a cliff-face, all crumpled and swirled by the earth's natural forces.

i am going to be very tree-hugging and say that i like them all *best*. It's like children: you can't pic a fave, because they all have their own unique and wonderful qualities. I have to say, though, that some of them remind me of Van Gogh's "Starry Night" I guess this would be "Starry Night, by Tree". Sort of like "Leaf, by Niggle". Yet different.

The Picasso Boobies, of course. :) Also, I love that you take the time to sit and see so much in a stump.

Yes it does. *grins*

What neat pictures! They are all beautiful.

It's the modern art panel. (-:

Yeah, it is like muted marbling.

I'm glad. It is a natural force nevertheless.

[identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com 2013-07-01 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
It's the swirliness and texture of them.

Like your icon lady. (-: I'm happiest when I'm lost in macro mode among the small details. Though I love surfacing to share them with those who want to see. (-:

Lovely and scary patterns. :D

It those images were blown up and mounted on poster-board, you could sell them I believe. I'm serious, you take such neat photos & I've seen much less interesting things at flea markets and shows.

[identity profile] aliensouldream.livejournal.com 2013-07-01 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Incredible! I love the top abstract one and also the 'boobies' one. I think you have invented bark art. It's amazing to think how it has grown that way. I wonder how old it it?

[identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com 2013-07-03 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Really? What about them makes them scary to you?

[identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com 2013-07-03 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I've been thinking about making greeting cards of some of them to sell. People really like these and the lake reflection pics. Then I could get a table at the town crafts fair and try to sell them along with the jewelry I bought on ebay.

[identity profile] lavendertook.livejournal.com 2013-07-03 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you, bb! Actually, this is wood stripped of it's bark. But have I got bark pics for you! I've been in love with the bark treads on some of the trees around here and have been taking plenty of pics you will get to see.

[identity profile] i-o-r-h-a-e-l.livejournal.com 2013-07-03 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
They show that they are old. :D
