realsocialskills: Urgent: The GOP is close to destroying the ACA and Medicaid
The GOP is trying to repeal the ACA and cut Medicaid again. They almost have the votes to do it. We have the chance to stop them from getting the votes, if we act *right now*. We need to put overwhelming pressure on every senator to vote no.

Appropriately for the Hugo Awards this optimistic view proved to be, as usual, pure fantasy. Still, I did pretty well for a lady with a long commute and limited data; particularly when it came to the Best Short Story category. I read four of the six stories nominated in this category for 2017. And what better way to get back into writing than to share all my thoughts with you?

Fandom: DCU, Guardians of the Galaxy
Characters/Pairings: Poison Ivy, Baby Groot
Content Notes: A DCU/MCU crossover. Decided to give Baby Groot a friend. ^__^ I used my left hand to draw with pencil and paint with watercolour. I have never tried to use a paintbrush with my non-dominant hand, so I'm really happy with the way it came out. It did take me twice as long (if not more!) than it usually would though, plus my wrist kept cramping from the unaccustomed movement. Also, my name is signed backwards, because for some reason it's easier for my left hand to write stuff mirror-imaged. :b

How has your week been?
Housekeeping (the usual stuff)
Reminder that we have a suggestion post if there’s a topic that you’d like to see discussed but would like to ask the mods to look into. This can be anything from general information, or a how-to-do-a-thing, or something you may want to discuss as a community. Folks are welcome to post directly to the comm as always, but if you’re not comfortable/don’t have spoons, we can help too.
As we don't always get the time to pull things out of the suggestions post into their own separate posts, it may be worth checking every week (or tracking the post) to see if there's any new information you're interested in.
Also if you need help with tags, PM redbird, who is our tag guru. Both tassosss and I are very grateful for the help.

Content Notes: traditional drawing - paper, sharpie pens & black pen & a book
I hope it's okay to post a second drawing for the challenge? I have another drawing for the challenge too, is it okay for me to post that one too? It's just that I really enjoy this and challenging myself! :-)
I wanted to say a huge thank you for this amazing challenge because it gave me an opportunity to go back to the traditional drawing and I realised that I miss it very much so I will try to mix both traditional and digital drawing from now on.

Somewhere on the outer rim of the universe, a mass of decaying world-ships known as the Legion is traveling in the seams between the stars. For generations, a war for control of the Legion has been waged, with no clear resolution. As worlds continue to die, a desperate plan is put into motion. Zan wakes with no memory, prisoner of a people who say they are her family. She is told she is their salvation - the only person capable of boarding the Mokshi, a world-ship with the power to leave the Legion. But Zan's new family is not the only one desperate to gain control of the prized ship. Zan finds that she must choose sides in a genocidal campaign that will take her from the edges of the Legion's gravity well to the very belly of the world. Zan will soon learn that she carries the seeds of the Legion's destruction - and its possible salvation. But can she and her ragtag band of followers survive the horrors of the Legion and its people long enough to deliver it?
I picked this up as part of my transcription duties for Fangirl Happy Hour – it's a lot easier to follow a discussion about a book if you've read it – and it turns out that I have more thoughts on it than I expected!
The plot that can be described without spoiling the book is this: Zan wakes up with few memories of who she is, and a mission to take over a living planet/ship called the Mokshi on behalf of women who claim to be her family. The women are part of the Katazyrna, the ruling family of their own living planet/ship, one bound into a network of other planets/ships known as the Legion; they want the Mokshi because it is a planet not bound into orbit with the rest of the Legion. And from there, things get... Complicated.

Content Notes: colored pencil + ballpoint pen
I'm debating whether or not I should also color in the face, but I kind of liked it this way. I have... legible control with my non-dominant hand, if I take my time, but I did find sometimes I relied on using my shoulder over my fingers (like you're technically supposed to do, haha, but I don't do it when I draw with my dominant hand) because the fine motor control is more difficult (hence, squiggly lines). It was nice to give my right hand a break, though, it's been kind of hurting lately.
Fandom: original work
Content Notes: Possum, also known as the best cat in the world - I figured he'd forgive me if it turned out wonky. Pencil drawing (scanned & the contrast slightly upped as it was a crappy scan). He's not actually legless, he just has his paws tucked under him. :)
Well, that was interesting. The right side was incredibly hard to do - worse than doing left sides with my dominant right hand. I constantly had to beat down the urge to swap the pencil to my right hand, as well. The likeness (see icon) is a bit wonky but his fluffiness came through.

At this point writer sign ups are closed, but artist sign ups are open until October 5th 2017.
This is a big bang challenge for the sapphics, celebrating femslash pairings across many different fandoms. The main ones are RWBY, Star Trek, and Supergirl, plus more than ten others fandoms.
Authors have to write a minimum of 10,000 words, while artists have to create at least one piece based on the fic they claimed. Various types of art are allowed, including traditional and digital art, graphics, gifsets, moodboards, fanvideos, and fanmixes.
Fics and art pieces are due in late November.

What fanwork have you loved recently?
I haven't been able to find an interface/device that will show me all the available tags for the drawesome comm at the time that I'm writing a new post - say, when I'm posting an artwork. Mobile interfaces are no good for that (IOS or Android pads etc), but even a normal PC interface doesn't let me access a drop-down list of tags so as to select the ones I want. If I can remember them perfectly and I write them in just right (and the tags are already in the system) then they will show up, but I usually can't manage that.
So what I do is finish and post the post, then I hit "edit tags" for the new post and hey presto - a drop-down list appears. I then select multiple tags, as appropriate, by holding down "control" on my HP laptop while I add them. goss and I can add new tags to the comm just by typing these in, and we will see your posts pretty soon and will add any tags if needed - for a new fandom or a new artist. After that, those tags will be in there for everyone to use.
So that's how I do it and it's pretty quick and easy. Let me know if you've found any other or a better way to do tagging!
